DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)
Our Father, we worship and love you; and it is one point of our worship that you are holy. There was a time when we loved you for your mercy, for we knew no more; but now you have changed our hearts and made us in love with goodness, purity, justice, true holiness; and we understand now why “the cherubim and seraphim continually do cry, Holy, Holy, Lord God of hosts.” We adore you because you are holy and we love you for your infinite perfection.
Amen.
VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)
“Again, when he brings his firstborn into the world, he says, ‘And let all God’s angels worship him.’” (Hebrews 1:6)
Jesus is by nature infinitely superior to the noblest created beings, for he is in essence God and is to be worshiped as Lord of all. All powers are bound to recognize the chief Power. Since they derive their only rightful authority from the Lord, they should be careful to acknowledge His superiority at all times by the most reverent adoration.
PRAY FOR THE NATIONS
This week, we’re praying for the Mili of China.
The Mili are animist, meaning that they believe spiritual forces animate everything in the physical realm. They believe all objects, places, and animals have a spiritual essence. The Mili believe there is a delicate balance between their world and the spiritual realm, which they are careful not to upset.
Pray that the Mili would know that Christ has power over all spirits.
RECOMMENDED RESOURCE
Worship WITH your kids every day.
This week, as we focus on the theme of worship, we should remember that God has called every parent to be a worship leader. We are called to lead our kids to give their lives, with full knowledge, to the praise and purposes of God.
Family worship — the daily habit of gathering your family to read and discuss the Bible, pray, and sing together — has been a habit in my family as long as I’ve been a father. I’ve seen it bear incredible fruit in our kids and I know it will bear fruit in your home as well.
I also know that family life can be CRAZY (and very full). In the midst of a busy schedule, a lot of parents don’t feel like they can actually pull something like this off every day.
Parents, you really can. And to help you, I’ve been working on a series of easy-to-use, realistic family devotionals that cover the whole Bible. They’ll give you a daily reading and discussion guide… and it will only take 10–15 minutes every day.
I hope you’ll check out God Centered Family and try it out in your home.
