DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)
We are bound at this time to remember our country and we do. Oh God, in your great wisdom, intervene at this time of anxiety and dread. By your great mercy, teach our national leaders wisdom. We have already prayed before you that justice might be executed upon those who have committed cruel crimes, but we do pray that no policy of vengeance may be followed, that we may, in a Christian spirit, seek to overcome evil with good. We are afraid that our senators have not grace enough to do it but we pray that they may have it, and that still firmly but yet not vindictively the ship of state may be steered through these troubled waters and brought at last to a peaceful haven.
Amen.
VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)
“… casting all your cares on him, because he cares about you.” (1 Peter 5:7)
Do not doubt his grace because of your tribulation, but believe that he loves you as much in seasons of trouble as in times of happiness. What a serene and quiet life you might lead if you would leave providing to the God of providence! With a little oil in the jar and a handful of meal in the barrel, Elijah outlived the famine and you will do the same. If God cares for you, why need you care too? Can you trust him for your soul but not for your body? He has never refused to bear your burdens, he has never fainted under their weight. Come, then, soul! have done with fretful care, and leave all your concerns in the hand of a gracious God.
PRAY FOR THE NATIONS
This week, we’re praying for the Dhund of Pakistan.
The Dhund live in northern Pakistan (not far from Afghanistan), a region that is especially resistant to Christian ministry.
Pray that the Word of God would find good soil in northern Pakistan.

Worried about your kids?
This week as we pray about worry, we need to acknowledge that one of the biggest things many Christians worry about is our kids.
Will they be safe?
Will they have godly friends who point them to the truth?
Will they make wise choices?
Will they trust Christ and walk in true, lifelong faith?
While every one of these worries is a serious thing that ultimately is outside of our control, God calls us to take an active role in shaping our children’s response to each of these issues. Don’t just worry about your kids — point them to Jesus every day.
To help you point your kids to Jesus every day, I’ve been creating a series of family devotionals, God Centered Family, that give you everything you need to point your kids to Jesus and inspire lifelong faith in him. These simple-to-use interactive family devotionals are designed for families with kids of any age. They walk through every book of the Bible in a way that encourages personal Bible study and practical application.
A lot of parents WORRY about family devotionals (“Will I do it right?” “Will my kids care?” “What if they ask a question I can’t answer?”). God Centered Family will help you have the confidence to do what God has called you to do: point your kids to God every day.
FAITH’S CHECKBOOK
Spurgeon’s classic devotional, The Chequebook of the Bank of Faith, contains a promise of God for every day of the year. Pray with Spurgeon Plus subscribers receive the daily readings every weekday.

“Abundant peace belongs to those who love your instruction; nothing makes them stumble.” (Psalm 119:165)
A true love for the great book will bring us great peace from the great God and be a great protection for us. Let us live constantly in the society of the law of the Lord and it will breed in our hearts a restfulness that nothing else can bring. The Holy Spirit acts as a comforter through the Word and pours out those kind influences which calm the storms of the soul.
Nothing is a stumbling-block to the man who has the Word of God dwelling in him richly. He takes up his daily cross and it becomes a delight. He is prepared for the fiery trial. He does not consider trials strange so as to be utterly cast down by it. He is neither stumbled by prosperity, as so many are, nor crushed by adversity, as others have been; for he lives beyond the changing circumstances of external life. When his Lord puts before him some great mystery of the faith which makes others cry, “This is a hard saying; who can hear it?” the believer accepts it without question, for his intellectual difficulties are overcome by his reverent awe of the law of the Lord, which is the supreme authority to which he joyfully bows. Lord, work in us this love, this peace, this rest, this day.
Something to think about today if you’re feeling worried: “God’s love has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us” (Romans 5:5).
