DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)

With thankfulness upon our hearts, we would humbly ask you to strengthen our confidence in you. Are there any of your servants here at this time, or anywhere all over the world, whose confidence begins to fail them due to a present affliction or deep depression of spirit? We beg you, strengthen the things that remain which are ready to die and let their faith no longer waver. May they become strong in the Lord in full assurance of faith. Oh God, you know the burden of every heart before you, the secret sighing of the prisoner comes up into your ears. Some of us are in a season of confusion, others are in physical suffering. Some are severely downcast in themselves and others deeply afflicted with the trials of those they love, but as for all these burdens, our soul would cast them on the Lord—our ā€œstrength will lie in quiet confidenceā€ (Isaiah 30:15). This morning, all who are tested and troubled, take up the place of sitting still, leaving, with quiet acceptance, everything in the hands of God. Great captain, you shall steer the ship and we will not be troubled. By your grace, we will leave everything most sweetly in your hands. Where else should these things be left? We will take up the note of joyous song in anticipation of the deliverance which will surely come.

Amen.

VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)

ā€œI do believe; help my unbelief!ā€ (Mark 9:24)

There was faith, even though it was mixed with unbelief. It was a faith that made him pray, as I have already told you, and the Lord Jesus Christ found out where the faith was. He had, as it were, broken the great black lump of dead coal that looked to be nothing but unbelief, and there was the living light of faith burning in the very center of it.

PRAY FOR THE NATIONS

This week, we’re praying for the Parachi of Afghanistan.

The Parachi are an ethnic group of 12,000 people with no known Christians among them. As far as we know, they have never heard the name of Jesus. There is no Bible in their language or church that they could attend. They will never hear the gospel unless someone brings it from the outside.

Pray that God would send missionaries to the Parachi.

RECOMMENDED RESOURCE

Strengthen your confidence in God’s Word

Often, doubts about God lead to doubts about the trustworthiness of his Word. By growing our confidence in God’s Word, we will be doing a lot to strengthen our faith.

The best way to strengthen our faith in the Bible is to read it. It does an incredible job of defending itself!

But there is also a place for solid resources to help us deepen our understanding and defense of Scripture. A good, short book to get you started with this is Can I Really Trust the Bible? by Barry Cooper. This is a really helpful book that will help you trust God’s Word more AND equip you to confidently defend it to skeptics around you.

I read this book last year and it really helped me. I can’t wait to hear how God uses it to help you.

LAST WORD FROM SPURGEON

ā€œCast yourself simply on Jesus; let nothing but faith be in your soul towards Jesus.ā€ — Charles Spurgeon
