DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)
With equal honor and depth of love do we adore the Son of God, not only God but also man, bone of our bone and flesh of our flesh. We have not seen you and still must rest in faith alone, but we believe that you did come to earth, lived and died, that you were buried, and on the third day rose again from the dead; and you have gone up into glory, and you shall shortly come again to take your people from among men to dwell with you. Our heart expects you, we long for you; even so, come quickly Lord Jesus. Meanwhile, our spirit bows in lowliest and most loving reverence. With all the shining ranks above of cherubim and seraphim, we adore the Lamb in the midst of the throne as God over all, blessed forever.
Amen.
VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)
“Listen, Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one.” (Deuteronomy 6:4)
There is but one God. This is the very basis of our faith; we know nothing of “gods many and lords many.” Yet it is the Triune God whom we worship. We are not any less believers in the one living and true God because we worship Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
PRAY FOR THE NATIONS
This week, we’re praying for the Pashayi of Afghanistan.
Individual rights are very important in the Pashayi culture. If a man is wronged, he is permitted to avenge himself with violence. Fighting is common and men always carry knives and often firearms.
Pray for missionaries to go to the Pashayi. Pray that they would be protected.
RECOMMENDED RESOURCE
The doctrine of the Trinity isn’t just true — it’s good news
Christians believe in the Trinity — a doctrine we would defend even if it cost us everything. But why is this doctrine such a big deal? Does it really matter for our lives? Why should we care about the Trinity in a world full of suffering?
If you want to grow your knowledge for the doctrine of the Trinity (and your white, hot love for it!), check out Delighting in the Trinity by Michael Reeves — a short, powerful book that will leave you amazed at the greatness of our Triune God and his never-ending love for himself and us. Why can we be saved? Because God is a Trinity.
I know this book will help you love God, so I hope you’ll grab a copy today.
FAITH’S CHECKBOOK
Spurgeon’s classic devotional, The Chequebook of the Bank of Faith, contains a promise of God for every day of the year. Pray with Spurgeon Plus subscribers receive the daily readings every weekday.

“The LORD my Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like those of a deer and enables me to walk on mountain heights!” (Habakkuk 3:19)
This prophet’s confidence is as good as a promise; for that which faith is persuaded of is the purpose of God. The prophet had to travel through the deep places of poverty and famine but he went downhill without slipping, for the Lord helped him stand. Then he was called to the high places of the hills of conflict and he was not afraid to go up or to go down.
The Lord lent him strength. No, the Lord himself was his strength. Think of that: the Almighty God himself becomes our strength.
Note, that the Lord also gave him sure-footedness. The deer leap over rock and crag, never missing their foothold. Our Lord will give us grace to follow the most difficult paths of duty without a stumble. He can fit our foot for the crags so that we will be at home where we would perish without God’s help.
One of these days we shall be called to higher places still. We shall climb up there, even to the mountain of God, the high places where the shining ones are gathered. Oh, what feet are the feet of faith, by which, following the deer of the morning, we shall ascend into the hill of the Lord!
Something to think about today if you’re feeling worn out: God will be your strength today.
