DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)

We cannot gaze into the wonderful royal face of Jesus, without feeling our heart melt at the very sight of him. Oh Jesus, we love you—we are yours and you are ours. You have given yourself to us, as well as for us, and now we cheerfully give ourselves back to you, feeling that we are never so much our own, as when we are yours; that indeed we are not ourselves, until we are lost in you; but that then have we found our truest humanity when it and everything else is surrendered to the all-conquering power of Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)

“Don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought at a price. So glorify God with your body.” (1 Corinthians 6:19–20)

If bought, we are not our own. Now if it is true that we are not our own, then the inferences from this are that we have no right to injure what does not belong to us; and, as we are not our own, we have no right to be idle or to waste our talents. Further, we have no right to do what our old will would do; we are to desire to be obedient to the will of our Father who is in heaven. Yet again, if we are not our own, then we have no right to serve ourselves. The person who is living entirely for himself, whose object is his own ease, comfort, honor, or wealth—what does he know about redemption by Christ?

PRAY FOR THE NATIONS

This week, we’re praying for the Dangarik in Pakistan.

The Dangarik are Muslim, but also trust in spirit beings and are very superstitious. Pashtun tribes like the Dangarik live by a strict code of honor.

Pray that the Dangarik would hear and embrace the truth of God.
