DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)

Lord, make us useful. Let no believer live for himself. May we all try to bring others to Christ. May our servants, co-workers, and neighbors all know where we live; and if they do not understand the secret of that life, may they see the fruit of that life, and may they ask, “What is this?” and enquire their way to Christ that they may be sanctified too.

May none of us imagine that we are living rightly unless we are bringing others to the cross. Oh, keep us from worldliness; keep us much in prayer; keep us with the light of God shining on our forehead. May we be a happy people, not because we have no affliction, but because we are walking in the light of God.

Amen.

VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)

“If anyone serves me, he must follow me. Where I am, there my servant also will be. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him.” (John 12:26)

Do not let him invent some new method of service: “Let him follow me.” If you want to do Christ a service, it cannot be by any way of your own devising. Those servants of Christ who follow at their Master’s heel, and do his bidding at all times, are the true knights of the King who win the honors that God alone can give.

PRAY FOR THE NATIONS

This week, we’re praying for the Lasi of Pakistan.

The Lasi have a strong cultural identity and work hard to pass down their traditions to each generation. Islam is a central part of that cultural identity.

Pray that God would set the Lasi free from the lies of Islam.

Serve Your Kids By Pointing Them to Jesus

As we’ve been reading about serving God this week, I hope you’re seeing more than ever that every Christian is called to serve God by serving others. Parents have a unique responsibility to serve our kids. And one of the most important ways that we can serve our kids is by teaching them the truth.

When we serve our kids by teaching them the truth about God, we pray that we are laying the foundation for the next generation to serve God after he calls us home. We serve God now so that our kids might serve him tomorrow.

Our kids need to know who God is.

The world will be very quick to fill their hearts with lies about God — we get to serve them by filling them with the truth, laying a foundation for a life of faithful service to Jesus.

Teaching your kids the truth of God doesn’t have to be complicated. My series of family devotionals, God Centered Family, will give you everything you need to lead your kids to be lifelong followers of Jesus. With God Centered Family, you’ll walk through the entire Bible with your kids in three years. As you read each chapter, your kids will be reminded of the excellence of Jesus and invited to trust and serve him.

I LOVE hearing how God uses God Centered Family in homes around the world and I can’t wait to hear about how he uses it in your home!
