DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)

Now, here we are, Lord, and we belong to you. We remember what was said of your Son, “Having loved his own who were in the world” (John 13:1). We have hope because we are your own. You will make us worthy of you. Your possession of us is our hope of perfection. You washed our feet because we are your own. How sweet is the mercy which first took us to its heart and made us all its own, and now continues to deal tenderly with us so that, being Christ’s own, we may have that of Christ within us which all may see, and which proves us to be the Lord’s.

Amen.

VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)

“My love is mine and I am his; he feeds among the lilies.” (Song of Songs 2:16)

This belonging to the Well-beloved is a matter of fact and practice, not a thing to be talked about only, but really to be acted on. I am treading on tender ground now, but I pray to God that every Christian could really say this without lying: “I do live unto Christ in all things, for I am his. When I rise in the morning I wake up as his, when I sit down to a meal I eat as his, and drink as his. I eat, and drink, and sleep unto the Lord, in everything giving thanks unto him. It is blessed even to sleep as the Lord’s beloved, to dream as his Abrahams and Jacobs do, to awake at night and sing like David, and then drop off to sleep in Jesus.”

PRAY FOR THE NATIONS

This week, we’re praying for the Dangarik in Pakistan.

The Dangarik are a tribal group of 25,000 people. There are no known Christians among them and it is unlikely that any have ever heard the gospel. There are no churches in their area and no Bible in their language. They will never hear about Jesus unless someone comes from the outside to tell them.

Pray that God would send missionaries to the Dangarik.

RECOMMENDED RESOURCE

An incredible testimony of God’s grace to help you hate sin.

This week, we’re reflecting on the reality that we belong to God. A great way to learn this reality is by hearing testimonies of how people have turned from sin and surrendered their whole selves to Christ. A fantastic book-length testimony is Gay Girl, Good God by Jackie Hill Perry.

This book is a memoir describing Jackie’s journey out of sin, by grace. It’s an absolutely beautiful story of God’s power and mercy to save.

One of the things I love the most about this book is how its rich theology is described so beautifully. Jackie paints a picture of a God who is worthy of our worship, faith, and obedience — a God who is better than sin.

This book showed me of the ugliness of sin and the power of God’s grace in such a beautiful way. I know it will be a blessing to you — I hope you’ll grab a copy and enjoy it today.
