DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)
We long for our spirits to always be subject to the divine Spirit. May our earthiness and feebleness reveal the heavenliness and the strength of the indwelling Spirit of God. Grant us to feel that we have power to overcome sin, that we have power to resist the lusts of the flesh and to despise the pride of the world and the lust of the eyes. Though we groan within ourselves concerning the body of this death, yet we also sing “thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Corinthians 15:57). Help your children to take the victory, to rejoice that they have victory in Christ, even that we are more than conquerors through him who has loved us.
Amen.
VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)
“No temptation has come upon you except what is common to humanity. But God is faithful; he will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation he will also provide the way out so that you may be able to bear it.” (1 Corinthians 10:13)
Comfort can be found in that God makes a provision for the tempted, a way of escape for his people—“with the temptation he will also provide the way out.” There is a proper way to escape from any temptation. There are many improper ways and woe to the person who makes use of any of them. But there is only one proper way out, and that is the way God has made. The right way is always of God’s making and; therefore, any of us who are now exposed to temptation or trial are not to make our own way of escape out of it.
PRAY FOR THE NATIONS
This week, we’re praying for the Razihi of Yemen.
Water is scarce in Yemen and the Razihi attempt to make their living with agriculture.
Pray that God would provide their needs for his glory.

“Even before they call, I will answer; while they are still speaking, I will hear.” (Isaiah 65:24)
God’s work is quick! He hears us before we call and often answers us in the same speedy way. Foreseeing our needs and our prayers, he arranges providence in such a way that before the need actually arises, he has supplied it; before the trial swarms us, he has armed us against it. This is the promptness of omniscience and we have often seen it. Before we dreamed of the affliction which was coming, the strong consolation which was to sustain us under it had arrived. What a prayer-answering God we have!
The second clause — “while they are still speaking, I will hear” — suggests the telephone. Though God is in heaven and we are upon earth, yet he makes our word, like his own word, to travel very swiftly. When we pray rightly we speak into the ear of God. Our gracious Mediator presents our petitions at once, and the great Father hears them and smiles upon them. This is what prayer is! Is this not grand? Who would not pray often when he knows that he has the ear of the King of kings? Today I will pray in faith, not only believing that I shall be heard, but that I am heard; not only that I shall be answered, but that I have the answer already. Holy Spirit, help me in this!
Something to think about today if you’re feeling like prayer is pointless: God has already heard your deepest longings.
