We are weak, he is strong

🛐 Daily Prayer: "Deliver us from the power of temptation and sin forever."

Pray with Spurgeon

Daily Newsletter from SpurgeonBooks

Thanks for praying with us this week. We’ll be back on Monday.

DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)

There are many who know that they have been washed and that he who bears away sin has borne their sin away. These are they who now cry to you to be delivered from the power of sin, to be delivered from the power of temptation without, but especially from indwelling sin within. We feel very feeble. Oh, make us strong in the Lord, in the power of his might. May we never let sin have any rest in us, may we chase it, drive it out, slay it, hang it on a tree, abhor it, and may we “cling to that which is good.”

Amen.

VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)

“He exercised this power in Christ by raising him from the dead and seating him at his right hand in the heavens…” (Ephesians 1:20)

In the resurrection of Christ, as in our salvation, there was put forth nothing short of a divine power. This power was irresistible. All the soldiers and the high priests could not keep the body of Christ in the tomb; Death himself could not hold Jesus in his bonds.

PRAY FOR THE NATIONS

This week, we’re praying for the Pashtun of Pakistan.

We are instructed to call all nations to worship the Lord, “Praise the LORD, all nations! Glorify him, all peoples!” (Psalm 117:1). The Pashtun need to hear this call.

Pray that the Pashtun would praise the Lord.

RECOMMENDED RESOURCE

Helping Women Walk in Purity*

True joy is only found in Christ’s design, not in the lustful fantasies that we entertain. It’s time to say “NO” to the sinful thoughts you allow to stay in your mind and replace them with God-honoring thoughts of purity.

If you need a guide, I’ve been so thankful to dive into Sexual Faithfulness from Harvest USA — a FREE Bible study for women to say no to sexual sin and pursue purity.

Let me be clear: This Bible study is not a get-pure-quick scheme that will leave you ashamed at the sin that remains in your heart. This is a solid, biblical resource that will help you address sin at the root (the only strategy for real, lasting change) and pursue holiness.

You won’t end this Bible study discouraged about your sin — you will end it amazed at Christ’s power, compassion, and kindness.
