We are unworthy, but we come to God in Christ

DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)

We have deeply felt our entire unworthiness even to lift up our eyes to the place where your honor dwells. You have made us to die to our self-righteousness. We pray now because we have been quickened; we have received a new life, and the breath of that life is prayer. We have risen from the dead and we also make intercession through the life which Christ has given us. We plead with the living God with living hearts because he has made us to live.

Amen.

VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)

“For the LORD has chosen Zion; he has desired it for his home…” (Psalm 132:13)

It was no more than any other Canaanite town till God chose it, David captured it, Solomon built it, and the Lord dwelt in it. So was the church a mere Jebusite stronghold till grace chose it, conquered it, rebuilt it, and dwelt in it. The Lord has chosen his people, and hence they are his people. He has chosen the church, and hence it is what it is. Thus in the covenant David and Zion, Christ and his people, go together. David is for Zion and Zion for David; the interests of Christ and his people are mutual.
