DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)

Let the whole earth behold the brightness of the coming of the Lord. Let Jesus Christ reign from pole to pole, until he himself shall come openly to take to his great power for himself and all the kingdoms surrender themselves into his hands. May the Lord bless all who seek to make known the goodness of the name of Jesus in any way. Oh, help the humblest tongue that proclaims Christ to speak with fire; where the multitudes are gathered together, give preachers fervor, earnestness, sincerity, and depth of power to bring sinners to Jesus. “Let the people praise you oh God, yes, let all the peoples praise you!”

Amen.

VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)

“Immediately after the distress of those days, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not shed its light; the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the peoples of the earth will mourn; and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.” (Matthew 24:29–30)

There will be no further need of “the sun and the moon and the stars” when he, who is brighter than the sun, shines forth in all the glory of his Father and of his holy angels. Christ’s coming will be the source of untold joy to his friends; but it will bring unparalleled sorrow to his foes.

PRAY FOR THE NATIONS

This week, we’re praying for the Rawas of Indonesia.

As a majority-Muslim people group, the only thing the Rawas have ever heard about Jesus is the lies that the Quran tells about him. They haven’t rejected the truth of Jesus, they simply have never heard it.

Pray that the gospel would reach the Rawas of Indonesia.

RECOMMENDED RESOURCE

Helping kids love God.

In Deuteronomy 6, God commands all of his people to love him “with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength” (6:5) and he commands parents to repeat his words to their children (6:7). These commands are related — we are to speak God’s Word to our children in the hopes that their hearts will change and they will love God with all of their hearts.

Family devotionals from God Centered Family give you everything you need to teach your kids the Bible in an easy-to-use interactive format. These devotionals are designed to cultivate the love of God in your kids’ hearts.

  • We want your kids to love God with all their hearts — So we’ll help you show them Jesus on every page.

  • We want your kids to love God with all their minds — So we’ll help you teach them how the Bible fits together into one big story about Jesus.

  • We want your kids to love God with all their strength — So we’ll give you age-appropriate application questions to help them live out Christ’s commands.

We can’t change our kids’ hearts, only God can do that, but when we read the Bible to our kids, it’s like laying kindling around their hearts that we pray God would light on fire with a white-hot passionate love for himself. I hope you’ll partner with God Centered Family to lead your kids to love God.
