DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)

Our Father, for that is the sweetest title by which we can address you, we pray that you would save us entirely from sin. There are many in your presence who are resting in the peace which comes from justification by faith. We know that we are righteous through the righteousness of another, even Jesus Christ; but we look and long for personal likeness to you. If you are our Father, then upon every child of yours should be the Father’s image impressed; so let it be with us. We beg you, Lord, to enable us to recognize our death to sin so that when sin tempts us may we be deaf to the voice of the charmer with the deafness of death. When sin would use our members as instruments of unrighteousness, may we be quite incapable of sin because we are dead to it.

Amen.

VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)

“Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.” (John 17:17)

In this wonderful prayer our Lord, as our great high priest, appears to enter into that perpetual office of intercession that he is now exercising at the right hand of the Father. What a friend we have in Jesus, so willing, so speedy to do for us all that we need. How invaluable must the blessing of sanctification be when our Lord, in the highest reach of his intercession, cries, “Sanctify them!” The prayer means, “Father, consecrate them to your own self. Let them be temples for your indwelling, instruments for your use.”

PRAY FOR THE NATIONS

This week, we’re praying for the Yoruk of Turkey.

The Yoruk are Muslims but also practice animism and trust a village shaman to lead them in rituals to appease evil spirits.

Pray that the Yoruk would hear the message of Jesus and be set free from fear.

Helping your kids grow in godliness

Parents, to help your kids grow and be healthy, you need to give them a solid diet. Man does not live by Cheetos alone.

This illustrates an important spiritual reality — if you want your kids to grow in spiritual health, you need to give them a solid diet on the truth of God’s Word. Man does not live by Bible storybooks alone.

My series of family devotionals, God Centered Family, seeks to help you serve your kids solid meals from God’s Word every day. We’ve done the planning, now you just have to start cooking and invite your kids to experience God’s grace.

These devotionals are tested and proven. I love hearing from parents about how their kids lives are being changed as they read the Bible together with God Centered Family. And I can’t wait to hear from your family soon about what God does in YOUR home as you read the Bible together.
