DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)

At the remembrance of your great saving work, and being in your presence, we rejoice that our unrighteousness has been covered, we are free from condemnation, and we are the favored of the Lord. You have given us, oh Lord, a taste of that love which is not merely laid up for us, but we have enjoyed it, and do enjoy it still.

Our heart knows the Father’s love, for we have received the spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, “Abba Father.” And we joy and rejoice in the redemption of our spirits, and we expect the redemption of our bodies, when, at the coming of the Lord they too shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

Amen.

VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)

“For if, while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, then how much more, having been reconciled, will we be saved by his life.” (Romans 5:10)

Notice that while we were his enemies, he blessed us, so now that we are reconciled to him, will he not still bless us? If he reconciled us to him by the death of his Son, will he not save us by his life now that we are reconciled to him? Does he make us his friends, intending afterwards to destroy us? Perish such a thought. This verse is like a trident, it is a three-pronged argument for our eternal safety.

PRAY FOR THE NATIONS

This week, we’re praying for the Palembang in Indonesia.

The Palembang, primarily rice farmers, depend on rivers for their livelihood. Their crops are limited by their water.

Pray that God would continue to send rain on the Palembang and that Christians would teach them how to create irrigation systems.

Jesus Really Rose From the Dead (So What?)

Yesterday, I shared an apologetic resources to help you defend the resurrection of Jesus. But why does it matter that Jesus rose from the dead? While we love and embrace the cross, we often don’t give the resurrection of Jesus very much attention. But when we read the New Testament, we see that the resurrection of Jesus is actually just as crucial to our salvation as the cross.

If you want help learning about WHY the resurrection was so important, check out Risen: 50 Reasons Why the Resurrection Changed Everything by Steven D. Mathewson. You’ll walk away from this book with an increased understanding of why Jesus’ resurrection is so important AND increased hope, because you’ll better understand the benefits of Jesus’ resurrection.

This book will strengthen your faith, so I hope you’ll check it out today.

LAST WORD FROM SPURGEON

“He is with us in our solitude, he is with us in our public assemblies; but there is one place where he is not; and that is, in the empty tomb.” — Charles Spurgeon
