DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)
In the recollection of all that you have done for us, your people, we are filled with amazement, as well as with gratitude, that you should have loved us before the foundation of the world; that sovereign love should have pitched upon us poor unworthy ones, that you should so love us as to redeem us with the blood of Jesus and give the only begotten to die for unworthy creatures like to us; that you should love us notwithstanding our sins and transgressions, that you should love us despite the hardness of our hearts and the rebellion of our nature. It is strange, it surpasses belief at times, yet we know it to be so. And since the hour when we knew of your love and learned to say “Abba, Father,” we do confess we have been unworthy still. We have known your goodness; we have often acted very ungratefully, very distrustfully. But Lord, you have not changed, but still your faithfulness abounds to your servants; for which again we can only say, “Blessed be the name of the Lord!”
Amen.
VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)
“Because I, the LORD, have not changed, you descendants of Jacob have not been destroyed.” (Malachi 3:6)
Whatever his attributes were in ancient times, they are the same now; his power, his wisdom, his justice, his truth, are all alike unchanged. He has always been the refuge of his people, their stronghold in the day of trouble, and he is their sure helper still. He is unchanged in his love. He has loved his people with “an everlasting love”; he loves them now as much as ever he did, and when all earthly things shall have melted in the fires of final judgment, his love will still wear the dew of its youth. Precious is the assurance that he does not change! The wheel of providence revolves, but its axle is eternal love.
PRAY FOR THE NATIONS
This week, we’re praying for the Luobohe Miao of China.
The Luobohe Miao worship demons, spirits in nature, and their ancestors. Every village has a witchdoctor and their lives are controlled by various superstitions (for example, every house must face downhill, and no two houses may be in direct line with each other, since this might obstruct the pathway of the spirits).
Pray that the Luobohe Miao would hear the good news of Jesus and be set free from fear.
RECOMMENDED RESOURCE
The world will change.
Your kids will change.
God’s Word never changes.
Parents, we live in a world that changes fast, and sometimes it seems like our kids are changing even faster. The unique temptations and distractions that your kids face may have been unimaginable in your childhood. If we are going to give our kids a solid foundation for life, they need more than the latest trends — they need to know the unchanging God.
No matter what else will come and go, our God and his Word are permanently relevant, always powerful, and never changing. Give your kids the gift of God’s Word.
My series of family devotionals, God Centered Family, will help you make the Bible relevant, accessible, and interactive for your kids. These devotionals cover every book of the Bible, helping kids see Jesus on every page so that they might trust and follow him every day.

“… so we will always be with the Lord.” (1 Thessalonians 4:17)
While we are here, the Lord is with us. When we are called away, we are with him. There is no dividing the saint from his Savior. They are one and they must always be one. Jesus cannot be without his own people, for he would be a head without a body. Whether caught up into the air, or resting in Paradise, or sojourning here, we are with Jesus; and who can separate us from him?
What joy this brings! Our supreme honor, rest, comfort, and delight is to be with the Lord. We cannot conceive of anything which can surpass or even equal this divine society. By holy fellowship, we must be with him in his humiliation, rejection, and suffering and then we shall be with him in his glory. Before long we will be with him in his rest and in his royalty, in his expectation and in his return. We will triumph as he triumphs.
My Lord, if I am to be with you forever, I have an incomparable destiny. I will not envy an archangel. To be with the Lord forever is my idea of heaven at its best. Not the harps of gold, nor the crowns unfading, nor the light unclouded, is glory to me; but Jesus, Jesus himself, and myself with him forever in nearest and dearest fellowship.
Something to think about today if you’re feeling alone: You can never be separated from Jesus, for you are one with him.
