DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)
Lamb, slain from before the foundation of the world, you still sit upon the throne, for he who is on the throne looks like a Lamb that has been slain. Jesus, we beg you to take your great power for yourself; divide the spoil with the strong; take the purchase of your precious blood and rule from the river even to the ends of the earth.
Here we are before you; look on us in great pity. Lord, bless your own people. You surround them with great favor like a shield. Lord, save the unsaved. In great compassion, draw them by the attractive magnet of the cross, draw them to yourself, compel them to come in so that the wedding may be filled with guests.
Amen.
VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)
The Passover Lamb: “They must take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and the lintel of the houses where they eat them…. The blood on the houses where you are staying will be a distinguishing mark for you; when I see the blood, I will pass over you. No plague will be among you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt.” (Exodus 12:7, 13)
No Jewish person could ever talk of a finished work. The bull was offered, but he must bring another. The lamb was offered this morning, but another must be offered this evening, another tomorrow, and another the next day. The Passover is celebrated with holy rites; it must be kept in the same manner next year. The high priest has gone within the veil once, but he must go there again. The thing is never finished—it is always beginning. He never comes any nearer to the end. The law could not “make perfect those who draw near” (Hebrews 10:1). But see our position: we are redeemed from this. Our law is fulfilled, for Christ is the end of the law for righteousness. Our Passover is slain, for Jesus died. Our righteousness is finished, for we are complete in him. Our victim is slain, our priest has gone within the veil, and the blood is sprinkled. We are clean, and clean beyond any fear of defilement: “He has perfected for all time those who are made holy” (Hebrews 10:14).
PRAY FOR THE NATIONS
This week, we’re praying for the Faifi of Saudi Arabia.
The Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Muhammad Bin Salman bin Abd al-Aziz Al Saud, is vehemently anti-Christian. Scripture commands us to pray “for kings and all those who are in authority,” specifically so that the gospel can spread more freely in an environment of peace (1 Timothy 2:2–4).
Pray that God would convert the Crown Prince and bring him to repentance, that the persecution of Christians in Saudi Arabia would stop.
