Thanks for praying with us this week. We’ll be back on Monday.

DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)

Oh, that peace may reign over all the world but let not this nation intermeddle and be as one that takes a dog by the ear, but may there be wisdom given where we fear folly and strength given where wisdom reigns. Lord, grant that wars may utterly cease unto the ends of the earth. Make a way for the progress of Christianity, of civilization, of liberty, of everything that is honest and of good repute. May your kingdom come, and your will be done on earth as it is in heaven, for yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, forever and ever.

Amen.

VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)

“We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters
” (1 Thessalonians 4:13)

The more we Christians know of our religion, the better for our peace and happiness. The apostle says, “We do not want you to be uninformed.” He knew that being uninformed is an ill condition and we should avoid it. Depend on this—the more thoroughly we understand the gospel, the more we will find that the gospel blesses us and makes us happy. Each word eternal wisdom speaks is pure. We must give heed, then, to the sure word of Scripture, and so we will journey as with chart in hand, escaping a thousand dangers to which untaught travelers are exposed and enjoying a thousand delights which they cannot discern.

PRAY FOR THE NATIONS

This week, we’re praying for the Naru of China.

God is worthy of worship from all the earth (Psalm 66:4). No Christians have ever worshiped him among the Naru. This is a terrible injustice.

Pray that the Naru would come to know the one true God and worship him alone.

RECOMMENDED RESOURCE

The resurrection is a really big deal*

The Bible emphasizes over and over again that the resurrection of Christ is our source of hope. If Jesus didn’t rise (even if he gave himself for sins), we have no hope. And yet, many Christians don’t think much about the resurrection of Christ.

Most Christians think that the cross is our salvation (and believe me, there IS no salvation apart from the cross) and the resurrection is just the “happily ever after” cherry-on-top so that the story of Jesus wouldn’t be as sad.

By sidelining the resurrection, we’re missing out on some of the greatest joys and strongest hopes that God has for us.

It’s a really good thing that we have a day set aside each year for celebrating the resurrection of Christ, because we are prone to forget about it.

Easter is still a few months away, but I hope you’ll think about how YOU can prepare your heart to meditate on the good news of Jesus’ resurrection. How will you make this Easter a resurrection-focused, Jesus-centered, joy-giving season?

I’m thankful to share about a new resource to help you. The Risen King is a new devotional written by Charles Spurgeon, compiled from his sermons on the life of Jesus by J.A. Medders. This is an epic 40-day journey through the life of Jesus to prepare your heart for Easter.

This book is so encouraging. Each daily reading is packed with grace as we hear God’s Word from Spurgeon and look into the face of Jesus.
