DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)

We adore you, oh Father, for your great love in the gift of Jesus; we equally adore you, most blessed Jesus, for giving your life for our sakes; and then we adore the blessed Spirit who has led us to know this mystery and to put our trust in Jesus. Unto the one God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, do we pay our reverent homage this morning; only we see him yet more clearly than the patriarchs of old did, for God in the face of Jesus Christ is seen in the clearest light that mortal eye can bear.

Amen.

VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)

“Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!” (2 Corinthians 9:15)

The gospel is founded upon giving and its spirit is giving. Buying and selling are unknown in spiritual things, unless we buy without money and without price. Payment is for the law; under the gospel everything is a gift. God gives us Jesus, gives us eternal life, gives us grace and glory, gives us everything, in fact; and then moved by love to him we give ourselves back to him and to his people.

PRAY FOR THE NATIONS

This week, we’re praying for the Matpa in Bhutan.

In Bhutan, Christianity is usually seen as a foreign religion that threatens the country’s values. The Matpa will not trust in Jesus unless God radically changes their hearts.

Pray that God would save the people he has chosen among the Matpa.

Parents, don’t complain about God’s gifts

This week, as we think about the theme of God’s gifts to us, I’m reminded of one of the most counter-cultural teachings in Christianity today. Christians are instructed in Scripture to see our children as BLESSINGS while the culture around us frequently sees them as burdens. We know that our kids are blessings because they are made in the image of God — they are not inconvenient, they are eternal beings crafted by the loving hand of God.

Because our kids will last forever, we need to be intentional about pointing them to Jesus. They will spend forever worshiping him; let’s help them get started now.

To help you point your kids to Jesus every day, I’ve been creating a series of family devotionals, God Centered Family, that walk through all of Scripture, helping kids learn how to read the Bible for themselves and showing how every chapter points to Jesus.

God has blessed you with kids, you have a responsibility to point them back to the God who made them. God Centered Family will give you everything you need to teach your kids about Christ with confidence.
