DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)
Speak, Lord, and if there is darkness make it light with your Word. Speak to any who are sleeping and awaken them. Speak to any who are heavy of heart and call them to rejoice. May we clash the high-sounding cymbals today, while we rejoice in the Lord who is our strength and our song, “he has become my salvation” (Isaiah 12:2). May we get us up to the high mountain today, and rejoice in him who calls us to mount and fly away. May our dwelling be on high.
Do you say to us, “Who may ascend the mountain of the LORD? Who may stand in his holy place?” (Psalm 24:3). We desire that we may be men of that order, who would come near to you. We would be as near as Jesus is, so near, so very near to God, we cannot be nearer.
Amen.
VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)
“For the word of God is living and effective…” (Hebrews 4:12)
Holy Scripture is full of power and energy. The Word of God is that by which sin is slain, and grace is born in the heart. It is the Bible which brings life with it. How active and energetic it is, when the soul is convinced of sin, in bringing it forth into gospel liberty.
PRAY FOR THE NATIONS
This week, we’re praying for the Sangisari of Iran.
Psalm 117:1 gives a command to all nations: “Praise the LORD, all nations! Glorify him, all peoples!” The Sangisari cannot praise God because no one has ever told them that he exists.
Pray that God would be glorified among the Sangisari.

Parents and the Crisis of Faith in Our Country
Today, we are living in a crisis of biblical literacy (and it's getting worse every day). More than half of Americans have never read the entire Bible (that's bad) and more than half of professing Christians in the U.S. believe that Jesus isn't God (that's worse). Our kids need to know the Bible... and they aren't going to learn it automatically — we have to be intentional.
Earlier this week, I shared about the three foundations for lifelong faith that we seek to lay with every family devotional from God Centered Family: Bible skills, Bible knowledge, and Bible habits. By Bible knowledge, I mean helping you instill a thorough biblical literacy in your kids that will protect them from false teaching and sin.
Here's how we do it:
Reading and discussing the entire Bible — Our family devotionals cover EVERY book of the Bible (not just the popular stories). In three years, you and your kids will read and discuss EVERY chapter of Scripture, even the hard ones. Kids can't know the Bible if they haven't heard it.
Three Year Reading Plan — If you start on the day they are born, you can read the entire Bible to your kids FIVE TIMES before they turn 18. No matter when you get started, there is no replacement for that kind of regular exposure.
Introductions for Parents — Each book of the Bible comes with a simple 1–2 page introduction for parents. This isn't just helping us grow our knowledge of God's Word, it's also equipping us with a firm foundation with which we can engage with each book and answer our kids’ questions.
If we want our kids to be lifelong followers of Jesus, we need to teach them all of Scripture (because all of Scripture reveals Jesus!). God Centered Family will give you everything you need to have daily meaningful conversations about God with your kids.
