Daily Newsletter from SpurgeonBooks

This week, our prayers and Scripture readings each day will focus on Thanksgiving and prayers of thankfulness. Next week, we’ll highlight a different theme. Invite a friend to pray with you by sending them this link.

DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)

Our Father, we pray with a deep gratitude for all your mercies: may they take possession of all our hearts that, as when David sat in his house of cedar he “magnified the Lord,” so may we also, whenever things go smoothly with us. Lord, may the gratitude we feel prompt us to say again, “How can I repay the LORD for all the good he has done for me?” (Psalm 116:12).

Make every child of yours here, to be every day serving you; and serving you so that heaven’s work may begin below, and something of heaven’s pleasure may be enjoyed even now. But Lord, while we work for you, always keep us sitting at the feet of Jesus. Let our faith never wander away from the simplicity of its confidence in him. Let our motive never be anything but his glory; may our hearts be taken up with his love, and our thoughts perpetually engaged about his person. Let us choose the good part which shall not be taken away—that if we serve with Martha we may also sit with Mary.

Amen.

VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)

“We give thanks to you, God; we give thanks to you, for your name is near. People tell about your wondrous works.” (Psalm 75:1)

We do not give thanks to ourselves for we were helpless, but to God who heard our cry, and replied to the taunt of our foes. Never let us neglect thanksgiving, or we may fear that another time our prayers will remain unanswered. As the smiling flowers gratefully reflect in their lovely colors the various constituents of the solar ray, so should gratitude spring up in our hearts after the smiles of God’s providence.

We should praise God again and again. Stinted gratitude is ingratitude. For infinite goodness there should be measureless thanks. Faith promises redoubled praise for greatly needed and signal deliverances.

PRAY FOR THE NATIONS

This week, we’re praying for the Aimaq of Afghanistan.

The Aimaq are a group of 1.7 million people. All of them are Muslims and there are no Christians living among them or speaking their language. They will never hear about Jesus unless someone comes from the outside.

Pray that God would send missionaries to the Aimaq.

RECOMMENDED RESOURCE

A Practical Tool to Strengthen Your Marriage

Men, I’m passionate about helping you become the husbands God has called you to be — to create a specific plan to “love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself for her” (Ephesians 5:25).

Last year, I created The God Centered Husband One-Year Journal, a practical resource to help men grow. It has 52 blank weekly templates to help you serve your wife (encouraging you to brainstorm ways you can pray for and care for your wife). I’ve been SO THANKFUL to hear about how God has used this resource to strengthen marriages and help men “man up” at home.

So today, I’m really excited to launch The God Centered WIFE One-Year Journal. It has the same format (52 blank weekly templates), but rewritten and redesigned for women. Each week also includes a dotted journal page for to-do lists, notes, or anything else.

Also included:

  • 52 deep conversation starters for Christian couples

  • Weekly devotionals to remind you of God’s grace for imperfect spouses

  • One-year Bible reading plan to help you keep track of your devotional life

  • Promise Log to help you keep track of the things you've promised your spouse that you will do, work on, or change. Have you kept your promises?

  • Weekly to-do list and notes page

I’m really excited about this resource, so I hope you’ll grab a copy today for yourself and another one for a friend (a GREAT Christ-centered Christmas gift!)
