DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)
Truly, Lord, if there are any creatures in the world that can praise you, we ought to do so. Everyone reading this prayer feels that he has some special reason for gratitude. Lord, it is an unspeakable mercy to know youâto know you as our reconciled God, to know you as our Father in Christ Jesus, who has forgiven us all our trespasses. It is unspeakably sweet to come and rest in you and to know that there is now no cause of quarrel between us and you; on the contrary, we are bound to one another by a covenant which you have made in infinite tenderness and mercy, so that your people might have strong peace and might boldly take hold to you.
Amen.
VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)
âHe is not far from each one of us.â (Acts 17:27)
This shows us how vain is all hope of escape from God. Where can we fly? Where can we hide? What will we do? We have provoked him. âThe LORD will never leave the guilty unpunishedâ (Nahum 1:3). This is the solemn side of the matter.
But there is a bright side to this great truth of Godâs nearness. If God is not far from each of us, then our seeking him is incredibly hopeful! If I seek God and he is not far from me, I will surely find him. I do not have to climb to heaven or dive into the abyss, for he is near. Where I sit, or stand, I may come to him. It is written, âIf you seek him, he will be found by youâ (1 Chronicles 28:9). And again, âSeek the LORD while he may be found; call to him while he is nearâ (Isaiah 55:6). Omnipresence yields good cheer to those who are panting for God. If the Lord is near, there is no reason he should not grant pardon right now to all who seek it. God is near, and therefore hope is near.
PRAY FOR THE NATIONS
This week, weâre praying for the Belide in Indonesia.
The God who has drawn close to all of us will one day invite the Belide near: âthe LORD of Armies will prepare for all the peoplesâ (Isaiah 25:6). The Belide have never heard this great invitation.
Pray that the gospel would reach the Belide.
