DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)

We pray fervently and earnestly for those who do not currently know you. Spirit of God, convince people of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment to come; and especially convince the human heart of the sin of not believing in the Lord Jesus Christ. Make this to be very clear to the heart, that not believing in Jesus is the highest act of enmity against God. The rejection of God, when he becomes man and dies, out of infinite love—surely this is the highest crime and misdemeanor against the great King. May this might strike, like an arrow, into the heart of some. If they cannot accuse themselves of any gross sin of the body, yet may this grossest of all sins be laid, like a millstone, upon their conscience, that they have refused the Son of God and slandered his precious blood, and how shall they escape if they neglect so great salvation!

VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)

“When [the Holy Spirit] comes, he will convict the world about sin, righteousness, and judgment…” (John 16:8)

A promise is here made to the servants of Christ, that when they go forth to preach the gospel the Holy Ghost will be with them to convict men. By this is meant, not so much to save them as to silence them. When the minister of Christ stands up to plead his Master’s cause, another advocate appears in court, whose pleadings would make it hard for men to resist the truth. It was not that a few disciples testified to the sin of the race, but the Holy Spirit himself made men tremble as by his deeds of power he bore witness to the Lord Jesus, and exhibited the fact that in crucifying him the world had put to death the incarnate Son of God. Do you not see the incredible power with which the first disciples were thus armed?

PRAY FOR THE NATIONS

This week, we’re praying for the Muhamasheen in Yemen.

God has commanded his people to “Declare his glory among the nations, his wondrous works among all peoples” (Psalm 96:3). If we’re going to obey God, we have to sacrifice for the gospel to spread to all nations.

Pray that the Muhamasheen would hear the glory of the one true God and believe.
