DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)

Grant us this faith. Oh, work it in us now while, at the same time, we confess that if we do not have faith, it is our shame and sin. We make no excuse for unbelief, but confess it with detestation of it, that we should ever have doubted the truthful, the mighty, the faithful God. Yet, Lord, we shall fall into the like sin again, unless the grace that makes us know it to be sin shall help us to avoid it.

Amen.

VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)

“By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was made from things that are not visible.” (Hebrews 11:3)

The facts about creation must be the subject of faith. It is true that they can be substantiated by the argument from design and in other ways; still, for a wise purpose, as I believe, God has not made even that matter of the creation of the universe perfectly clear to human reason, so there is room for the exercise of faith. Men like to have everything laid down according to the rules of mathematical precision, but God desires them to exercise faith. Therefore, He has not acted according to their wishes.

Reason is all very well, but faith mounts upon the shoulders of reason and sees much farther than reason with her best telescope will ever be able to see. It is enough for us who have faith that God has told us how He made the world, and we believe it.

PRAY FOR THE NATIONS

This week, we’re praying for the Jiiddo in Somalia.

Somalia is a dangerous country full of terrorism, unrest, lack of access to healthcare facilities, frequent kidnappings, and even piracy. Missionaries will not be able to persevere in Somalia unless God empowers them.

Pray that God would keep the Jiiddo and their children safe.
