DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)
We pray that you would make us useful to our brothers and sisters in Christ. Lord, help us to speak a word in season to those who are sad of heart. When your arrows stick fast in the conscience, may we know how to apply the balm of Jesus’ wounds. Make us ready to tell out the sweet gospel which has been so precious to our own souls; and like people who have newly come from the presence of a pardoning Saviour ourselves; people newly washed in that dear blood which makes white as snow, may we go and tell to our fellow men, all black as they are, how they also can be made whiter than snow.
Lord, make us useful to your own children who have backslidden. May we be as Peter was, to whom Thou saidst, “when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers” (Luke 22:32). Help us fetch the rear guard of those that loiter and linger, so that the whole army of Christ may quicken its pace and march to victory.
Amen.
VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)
“Whatever you do, do it from the heart, as something done for the Lord and not for people…” (Colossians 3:23)
If you do all your work in this spirit, how noble it becomes and how cheerfully you will get through it! You may have a master who is unworthy of your service; yet, if you “do it from the heart as something done for the Lord,” you will have rest of heart even in serving those who are perverse and the Lord will reward your service in due time.
PRAY FOR THE NATIONS
This week, we’re praying for the Lasi of Pakistan.
The Lasi do not have the Bible in their language. How can they hear the words of life?
Pray that faithful and qualified Bible translators would bring the Bible to the Lasi.
RECOMMENDED RESOURCE
A book of powerful testimonies — FREE for you!*
Hearing the stories of how God has been at work in the lives of other believers is always encouraging. Stories are ALWAYS powerful, especially when they point to the truth of our powerful God. I recently read a book of testimonies from persecuted Christian women and, as is always the case with hearing testimonies, it was really powerful.
It was absolutely breathtaking to hear about how these women came to faith in unlikely places. Hearing their testimonies increased my faith that God is GOING to establish his kingdom.
Most of these women could have escaped persecution if they had just agreed to stop talking about the truth. But they couldn’t. They HAD to spread the gospel. Hearing their testimonies encouraged me to share Christ where I am.
As they persevered, they found an unshakeable hope in God, who never let them go. Hearing their testimonies reminded me of the never-ending care of God.
This book is called Hearts of Fire and this month, you can get a FREE COPY from The Voice of the Martyrs.
This is an inspiring book (nearly 300 pages) that is jam-packed with testimonies about God’s faithfulness.

“The LORD will give grace and glory…” (Psalm 84:11, KJV)
Grace is what we need just now and it is to be had freely. What can be freer than a gift? Today we shall receive sustaining, strengthening, sanctifying, and satisfying grace. He has given daily grace until now and as for the future, that grace is still sufficient. If we have only a little grace, the fault must lie in ourselves for the Lord is not poor, nor is he slow to bestow grace in abundance. We may ask for as much grace as we desire and never fear a refusal. He gives liberally and does not scold us for asking.
The Lord may not give gold, but he will give grace; he may not give gain, but he will give grace. He will certainly send us trials but he will give grace in proportion with each trial. We may be called to labor and to suffer, but with the call there will come all the grace required.
What an “and” is that in the text—“and glory!” We do not need glory yet and we are not yet fit for it; but we shall have it in due order. After we have eaten the bread of grace, we shall drink the wine of glory. We must go through the holy, which is grace, to the holiest of all, which is glory. These words “and glory” are enough to make a man dance for joy. A little while—a little while, and then glory forever!
Something to think about today if you’re feeling ashamed by your sins: God will never run out of grace to forgive you.
