DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)

Our Father, we dare call you by that blessed name for we feel the spirit of children. We have an earnest love for you and an implicit trust in you; and we desire in all things to be obedient to your will and to seek your honor. All our dependence is placed on you since the day when you taught us to believe in Jesus Christ. Now you are all in all to us, you are our fullness and we lose ourselves and find ourselves completely in you.

Amen.

VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)

“Love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.” (Deuteronomy 6:5)

It seems to me a blessed privilege for us to be permitted to love one so great as God. It is a command, but we regard it rather as a loving, tender invitation to the highest bliss. “With all your heart” means intensely. “With all your soul” means sincerely, most lovingly. “And with all your strength” means with all our energy, with every faculty, with every possibility of our nature.

PRAY FOR THE NATIONS

This week, we’re praying for the Razihi of Yemen.

According to the U.S. State Department, no one should travel to Yemen “due to terrorism, civil unrest, crime, health risks, kidnapping, armed conflict, and landmines.”

Pray that missionaries would count the cost and move to Yemen because they know that bringing the gospel to the Razihi is worth it.

Inspiring real love for God in a generation of kids

This week as we pray about our love for God, I know that I’m not the only parent who is earnestly praying for my kids to love God too. If we want our kids to have a deep-rooted, lifelong love for Jesus, we can’t expect them to just take our word for it — we need to push them to plunge the depths of Scripture and encounter the risen Christ in its pages for themselves.

Your kids cannot eat baby food forever, they have to be taught to chew and swallow solids. Your kids cannot rely on Bible storybooks and vegetable shows forever. They have to be taught to know Scripture.

They cannot love God without knowing him in Scripture.

That’s the heart behind God Centered Family, my series of family devotionals. These devotionals are realistic guides (suitable even for the busiest families and squirmiest kids). By God’s grace, so many families have seen him work in their homes through these devotionals. I can’t wait to hear what God does in your family.
