DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)
There are rebellions within our nature still. We think that we are getting holy, and behold we discover that we are under the power of pride, that we are self-conceited about ourselves. Lord help us to master pride.
We ask you, our Father, this day to perfect your work within our hearts. We are saved, but we long to be saved from sin of every form and degree; from sins that lie within, and we are scarcely aware that they are there. If we have any pride of which we are not conscious, any unbelief of which we are not aware, if there is a clinging to the creature, a form of idolatry which we have not yet perceived, we ask you Lord to search us until you can see our evil and then put it away. We are not satisfied with pardoned sin, āWe pray, create in me a clean heart, oh God, and renew a right spirit within me.ā
Amen.
VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)
āAdopt the same attitude as that of Christ Jesusā¦ā (Philippians 2:5)
What an example of humility we have set before us in the Lord Jesus Christ! Jesus is the divine example of love and self-denial, and as we hope to be saved by him we must diligently copy him. He is now exalted to the highest glory as the reward of his voluntary humiliation, and by the same means must his disciples rise to honor. We must stoop to conquer. He who is willing to be nothing shall be possessor of all things.
PRAY FOR THE NATIONS
This week, weāre praying for the Lafofa of Sudan.
The Bible has never been translated into the Lafofasā language. How can they hear the words of life?
Pray that God would send faithful Bible translators into Sudan.
RECOMMENDED RESOURCE
The (not-so-surprising) cure for anxiety
Today we prayed, confessing our pride and asking God to rid us of it by exposing our sins. Pride is a particularly difficult sin, and it's often the source of our worries. Weāre depending on ourselves, rather than our God.
The path to a peaceful life, free of anxiety, starts by laying down your pride, by relying on the Savior instead of yourself. If you want peace in your life, start by growing in humility.
Thatās the point of Humble Roots by Hannah Anderson. This book discusses Christās call to humility and practical steps to walk in it. It will definitely encourage you, shape you into Christlikeness, and fill you up with peace.
FAITHāS CHECKBOOK
Spurgeonās classic devotional, The Chequebook of the Bank of Faith, contains a promise of God for every day of the year. Pray with Spurgeon Plus subscribers receive the daily readings every weekday.

āYou will know that I am the LORD, my people, when I open your graves and bring you up from them.ā (Ezekiel 37:13)
Certainly those who receive life from the dead are sure to recognize the hand of the Lord in such a resurrection. This is the greatest and most remarkable of all changes that a man can experience: to be brought out of the grave of spiritual death and made to rejoice in the light and liberty of spiritual life. No one could do this but the Lord and giver of life.
I remember clearly when I was lying in the valley full of dry bones; and I was as dry as any of them! Blessed was the day when free and sovereign grace sent the man of God to prophesy to me. Glory be to God for the stirring which that word of faith caused among the dry bones. More blessed still was that heavenly breath from the four winds which made me live. Now I know the life-giving Spirit of the ever-living Lord. Truly the Lord is the living God, for he made me live.
My new life even in its longings and sorrowings is clear proof to me that the Lord can kill and make alive. He is the only God. He is all that is great, gracious, and glorious, and my resurrected soul adores him as the great I AM. All glory be to his sacred name! As long as I live, I will praise him.
Something to think about today if youāre feeling doubt about God: Reflect on what he has done for you.
LAST WORD FROM SPURGEON
