DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)

We ask you once more that you would, by some means, cause peace to be re-established throughout the earth. Grant that this nation may not be drawn into war. We have been foolish once over it, grant that we may not be so again; but oh, let your Kingdom come without the use of the sword. Oh, angel of war, will you not rest? Oh, sword of the Lord, put yourself into your scabbard and be still; for the sake of the great Prince of Peace we ask it.

Amen.

VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)

“Submit… to governors as those sent out by him to punish those who do what is evil and to praise those who do what is good.” (1 Peter 2:14)

Civil government is necessary for the well-being of mankind, and those who delight in the law of the Lord are among the last to wish to see its power weakened or its executive despised. We would sooner suffer wrong than see our country the prey of lawless mobs.

PRAY FOR THE NATIONS

This week, we’re praying for the Phunoi of Laos.

Laos is a dangerous and poor country. Many people are dying from illnesses like malaria, dysentery, pneumonia, and the flu.

Pray that God would preserve the lives of the Phunoi.

Teaching Toddlers to Honor God

My family has been loving a new series of Lift-the-Flap board books from The Good Book Company. The Training Young Hearts series by Abbey Wedgeworth encourages toddlers to use their bodies to serve others and honor God.

Each book focuses on a different body part and how we can use that to honor God. They all end by pointing kids to Jesus and showing how he perfectly honored God with his body so that we could be saved.

The books are really fun — my littles (2 and 5) are HOOKED! I usually despise lift-the-flap books, because the flaps get ripped off in a few seconds. But Training Young Hearts books are so high quality and durable.

I was thankful to receive a copy of the latest book in the series, What are Feet For? — I’m continually surprised at the relevance and biblical faithfulness of this series. I know you’ll love this series!
