DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)

Oh, in infinite mercy end this horrible war. Our soul weeps to think that this war should have been perpetrated by those whom we thought better of. Oh God almighty, may it come to a speedy close and may a permanent peace be established. Let the whole earth sit still and be at peace. Sword of the Lord, will you never rest? Will you never be quiet? We beg you, oh God of infinite mercy, turn men’s minds from all the sins that breed the cruelties and wickedness of war. May there come next a peace of soul and heart with God, and then a peace with our fellow men.

Amen.

VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)

“May the Lord of peace himself give you peace always in every way. The Lord be with all of you.” (2 Thessalonians 3:16)

The most terrible fact of the future can be no just cause of alarm to a true believer. The Lord comforts his people and there is nothing in his plans or purposes that is intended to disquiet them. You may rest assured that if any doctrine in the Bible prevents a godly man from enjoying peace it must be because he has not yet understood it fully or else has mistaken its bearing toward himself. Truth must minister peace to true men. All truth, whether doctrinal or prophetic, is on the side of the children of God. How can it be otherwise?

PRAY FOR THE NATIONS

This week, we’re praying for the Pacoh of Laos.

In Scripture, God promises to prove that “The LORD is great, even beyond the borders of Israel” (Malachi 1:5). The greatness of grace has never been proclaimed to the Pacoh; they have never savored the goodness of God.

Pray that God would be glorified as the Pacoh come to know him.
