DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)

Oh, in infinite mercy end this horrible war. Our soul weeps to think that this war should have been perpetrated by those whom we thought better of. Oh God almighty, may it come to a speedy close and may a permanent peace be established. Let the whole earth sit still and be at peace. Sword of the Lord, will you never rest? Will you never be quiet? We beg you, oh God of infinite mercy, turn menā€™s minds from all the sins that breed the cruelties and wickedness of war. May there come next a peace of soul and heart with God, and then a peace with our fellow men.

Amen.

VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)

ā€œMay the Lord of peace himself give you peace always in every way. The Lord be with all of you.ā€ (2 Thessalonians 3:16)

The most terrible fact of the future can be no just cause of alarm to a true believer. The Lord comforts his people and there is nothing in his plans or purposes that is intended to disquiet them. You may rest assured that if any doctrine in the Bible prevents a godly man from enjoying peace it must be because he has not yet understood it fully or else has mistaken its bearing toward himself. Truth must minister peace to true men. All truth, whether doctrinal or prophetic, is on the side of the children of God. How can it be otherwise?

PRAY FOR THE NATIONS

This week, weā€™re praying for the Pacoh of Laos.

In Scripture, God promises to prove that ā€œThe LORD is great, even beyond the borders of Israelā€ (Malachi 1:5). The greatness of grace has never been proclaimed to the Pacoh; they have never savored the goodness of God.

Pray that God would be glorified as the Pacoh come to know him.

RECOMMENDED RESOURCE

Your kids need Leviticus

Our sin separates us from God. We canā€™t work our way back to him, but God, in his grace, has provided a way for us to be saved by trusting in Christ who died in our place and rose again. Leviticus offers a foreshadowing of Christ that is designed to leave us longing for Godā€™s full, final salvation.

Everyone needs Leviticusā€¦ including kids. Thatā€™s why I just finished writing a family devotional on this important book for God Centered Family.

All of Scripture is important, but not all of Scripture is easy to understand and applyā€¦ especially with kids! Our four-week journey through Leviticus will break the book into manageable chunks for you (short enough even for the squirmiest kids) and give you discussion questions to help make the readings meaningful and point your kids to Jesus.

This is actually the second time Iā€™ve written a family devotional on Leviticus. Iā€™ve been in the process of rewriting all of the earliest God Centered Family devotionals to make them more usable and add additional features to help parents point their kids to Jesus. If youā€™ve subscribed to God Centered Family in the past, it could be a good time to try our devotionals again. Iā€™m always working to improve them.
