DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)

Lord, if you help us to pray, we will begin by adoring you. Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Here, all prayer should begin with reverent homage to the Most High. You are our creator, preserver, benefactor; all good comes from you, you deep abyss of love. Every drop of the rain of comfort falls from heaven. Every dewdrop of consolation, are you not the Father of it? We ascribe all honor and glory to you, for every good gift and every perfect gift, is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.

Amen.

VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)

ā€œAll things were created through him, and apart from him not one thing was created that has been created.ā€ (John 1:3)

We cannot describe the Deity of Christ in clearer language than John uses. He was with God; he was God; he did the works of God, for he was the Creator. If any doubt his Deity, they must do so in distinct defiance of the language of Holy Scripture.

PRAY FOR THE NATIONS

This week, we’re praying for the Duano of Indonesia.

The Bible has not been translated into the Duano’s language. They do not have the words of life.

Pray that faithful and qualified Bible translators would go to the Duano.

RECOMMENDED RESOURCE

A devotional to help you run from sin and cling to Christ

Often, the biggest cause of fear in our lives is questioning the truth of God’s forgiveness. But God wants us to have confidence that our sins are forgiven, to help us know that we are forgiven of our sin by the great mercy of Christ.

One resource that’s been helpful as I’ve studied God’s Word and his promise of forgiveness is Whiter Than Snow: Meditations on Sin and Mercy by Paul Tripp. This book features 52 short devotionals (one for every week of the year) on Psalm 51. This is an incredible resource to help you remember the horrors of your sin and the wonders of God’s amazing grace.

You could read the book over the next few months with just five minutes a day, or read one devotional each week for the next year. I can’t think of a better way to spend your time than reflecting on God’s mercy towards broken sinners like us.

I hope you’ll buy a copy and enjoy mediating on God’s unending mercy with me.
