DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)
Gracious God, the highest pleasure we anticipate is that of worshiping you in perfection with cherubim and seraphim and all the host redeemed by blood. With legions of angels and creatures innumerable we hope to continually pour out songs of adoring joy in that day that will never end. Even now, one of our nearest approaches to heaven is in sacred song.
You are our supreme delight, our inheritance, our light, our life, our all; we can truly say we delight in God. Blessed one, we love your Word, we love your House, we love your day of returning. And you yourself, we love you above all.
Amen.
VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)
“Then the one seated on the throne said, ‘Look, I am making everything new.’” (Revelation 21:5)
Once, the Lord might have said, “Behold, I make all things;” but now he says, “Behold, I make all things new.” Glory be to the great Creator! Did not the morning stars sing together for joy when he made the world? But equal if not greater glory must be ascribed to the great Regenerator, the New Creator; shall we not all sing together to his praise? Yes, that we shall if we are numbered among the “all things” that he makes new.
PRAY FOR THE NATIONS
This week, we’re praying for the Mjuniang of China.
The Mjuniang worship spirits and believe shamans and sorcerers have great power. This activity has become illegal in the last hundred years but is still practiced.
Pray that the Mjuniang would hear the good news that Jesus has power over all spirits.
RECOMMENDED RESOURCE
Revelation is a great book — and your kids need it
The last book of the Bible, Revelation, is an important book. God inspired this book because he knew that we need it. Unfortunately, many Christians are intimidated to study this book on our own, let alone teach it to our kids. We ALL (including our kids) need to study all of this book (not just the last two chapters).
Over the last few years, I’ve been working to write a family devotional on every book of the Bible and my devotional on Revelation was one of my favorites to write. These devotionals from God Centered Family will give you a comprehensive plan to read and discuss every chapter of the Bible over a course of three years. It will help you teach ALL of the Bible with your kids.
FAITH’S CHECKBOOK
Spurgeon’s classic devotional, The Chequebook of the Bank of Faith, contains a promise of God for every day of the year. Pray with Spurgeon Plus subscribers receive the daily readings every weekday.
If you want to strengthen your faith in God’s promises (and support this ministry!), subscribe to Pray with Spurgeon Plus here.
“Now, please bless your servant’s house so that it will continue before you forever. For you, Lord GOD, have spoken, and with your blessing your servant’s house will be blessed forever.” (2 Samuel 7:29)
Here, David was pleading for God to keep a promise, and so it offers a double instruction to us. Anything which the Lord God has spoken we should first receive as surely true and then plead for it at the throne. It is exceedingly sweet to quote what our own God has spoken!
We do not pray because we doubt, but because we believe. To pray without faith is unfit for any of the Lord’s children. No, Lord, we cannot doubt you; we are persuaded that every word of yours is a sure foundation for the boldest expectation. We come to you and say, “Do as you have said.” Bless your servant’s house. Heal our sick; save our friends who hesitate to trust you; restore those who wander; confirm those who live before you. Lord, give us food and clothing according to your word. Prosper our endeavors; especially bless our efforts to make your gospel known in our neighborhood. Make our servants your servants, our children your children. Let the blessing flow on to future generations. As long as any of our race remains on earth, may they remain true to you. Lord God, “please bless your servant’s house.”
Something to think about today if you’re feeling poor: God has promised to provide what you need.
LAST WORD FROM SPURGEON
“Oh, to think of heaven without Christ! It is the same thing as thinking of hell.” — Charles Spurgeon
