DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)
Lord, we are burdened when we realize that we ourselves do not love you as we should. Often we grow lukewarm and cold; doubt creeps over us and unbelief mars our confidence, and we sin and forget our God. Oh Lord, help us! Pardon is not enough, we want sanctification. We beg you, let the weeds that grow in the garden of our soul be cut up by the roots. We do want to serve you; we long for every thought we think and every word we say or write should be all for you. We want to lead consecrated lives; for we are persuaded that we only live as we live for God, that anything else is but trivial. We long to be taken up as offerings wholly to be consumed upon the altar of the Lord, joyfully ascending to him in every part of our life. Be pleased to refresh us this morning. Draw near unto us, gracious God; it is only your presence that can make us happy, holy, devout, or strong.
Amen.
VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)
“But as the one who called you is holy, you also are to be holy in all your conduct…” (1 Peter 1:15)
See your model. See the copy to which you are to write. You are far short of it. Try again. May the power of Jesus rest upon you, and may he that has wrought us to the self-same thing to which we have attained continue to work in us until we are like our Lord himself
PRAY FOR THE NATIONS
This week, we’re praying for the Yoruk of Turkey.
The Yoruk are suspicious of formal education and most cannot read or write. Bible recordings have been produced in their language.
Pray that God sends Christian teachers to the Yoruk to spread literacy and the Word of life.
RECOMMENDED RESOURCE
FINAL DAY: Save on Somethingism to strengthen your faith.*
It’s not enough to show people that the gospel is “true,” we need them to see that the gospel is WONDERFUL. And for that, I can’t think of a better resource than Somethingism by Luke Cawley. This book invites us to go beyond vague belief in “something” to a more concrete and long-lasting confidence in Christ, risen from the dead.
This really is a great resource to strengthen your own faith and joy in Christ AND to equip you to share with others. I walked away from the book (which I read in one sitting because I could not put it down!) feeling so confident and ready to share the good news with new vigor.
This month, it’s been available at a discount for Pray with Spurgeon readers, but today is the final day of that sale — I hope you’ll grab your copy today!

“To the one who conquers, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give him a white stone, and on the stone a new name is inscribed that no one knows except the one who receives it.” (Revelation 2:17)
May our hearts be stirred up to persevere in the holy war, for the reward of victory is great. Today we eat manna, the heavenly food which falls all around our camps; the food of the wilderness, the food which comes from heaven, the food which never fails us on the pilgrims to Canaan. But in Christ Jesus there is an even higher degree of spiritual life reserved for us; there is a food which, for now, is hidden from our experience.
In the golden pot which was laid up in the ark there was a portion of manna hidden away, which never grew stale even though it was kept for years. No one ever saw it; it was hidden inside of the ark of the covenant, in the most holy place. Even so, the highest life of the believer is hidden with Christ in God. We shall come to it soon. Being made victorious through the grace of our Lord Jesus, we shall eat the King’s meat and feed upon royal delicacies. We shall feed upon Jesus. He is our “hidden manna” as well as the manna of the wilderness. He is all in all to us in our highest and lowest states. He helps us to fight, gives us the victory, and then is himself our reward. Lord, help me to overcome.
Something to think about today if you’re feeling drained, worn out, and empty: Jesus will bring you all the way home and he will be your great reward.
