DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)

Blessed be the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Our imagination would take a flight out of our bodies for a moment up to the gate of pearl. It is open, and we pass along the golden streets, and we behold your glory, too excessive for the eye. We hear in spirit the eternal song and we bow with all the redeemed by blood. We have no crowns to cast at your feet, oh God, but all that we have, and all we are, we ascribe to you, “by the grace of God I am what I am” (1 Corinthians 15:10). We have no words, we can only adore, and again adore, and magnify and extol the Lord who lives forever. Accept our poor worship, through the mediator Jesus Christ.

Amen.

VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)

“The twenty-four elders fall down before the one seated on the throne and worship the one who lives forever and ever. They cast their crowns before the throne…” (Revelation 4:10)

Notice also their gratitude. It is said they cast their crowns before the throne. They know where they got them from, and they know to whom to ascribe the praise. Their crowns are their own, and, therefore, they wear them on their heads; their crowns were Jesus’ gift, and, therefore, they cast them at his feet.

Brothers and sisters, I am afraid when you and I get any graces, or have been made useful in Christ’s cause, we are glad for the thing’s sake, that is not right. Instead, we should be glad because we have something to cast at his feet. Have you faith? I must thank him for faith, I must lay it at his feet, and say, “Jesus, use my faith for your glory, for you are its author and finisher.” If you and I shall by divine grace persevere to the end, and shall arrive at heaven, it will be a joy to think that we are saved, but we will lay it all at the door of divine love.

PRAY FOR THE NATIONS

This week, we’re praying for the Afshari of Iran.

Iran is in a serious season of unrest.

Pray that the Afshari would be kept safe, that peace would reign, and God would use current events for his glory.

Christ never changes (He’s still alive today)

This week, as we seek to cast our crowns at Jesus’ feet and praise him as the king of all nations. It is wonderful to think that, in the midst of so much change, sorrow, and suffering in this world, Christ is the same, ruling over all nations.

Of course, we know in our heads that Christ is alive today… but what is he doing? After Christ rose again, he ascended into heaven. And he is doing some astounding work there right now for your good.

To better understand what Christ has been doing since he rose from the dead, you should check out The Ascension of Christ by Patrick Schreiner. This book is an accessible introduction to an often-neglected doctrine.

I know that reading it will bring you a lot of joy and hope as you reflect on the incredible ways Christ is serving you today. Grab a copy and read it this summer.
