DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)
Let us be forgiven and know it, and may there remain no lingering question in our heart about our reconciliation with God, but by a firm, full assurance based upon faith in the finished work of Christ, may we stand as forgiven men and women against whom transgression shall be mentioned never again for ever.
Lord, we have another mercy to ask which shall be the burden of our prayer. It is that you would help us to live such lives as pardoned men should live. We have but a little time to spend on this earth for our life is only a vapor; soon it vanishes away but we are most anxious that we may spend the time of our sojourning here in holy fear, that grace may be upon us from the beginning of our Christian life even to the earthly close of it.
Amen.
VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)
āConsider the birds of the sky: They donāt sow or reap or gather into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Arenāt you worth more than they?ā (Matthew 6:26)
The birds are fed by God; will he not feed us? They are free from the worry which comes from hoarding and trading; why should we not be? If God feeds the fowls of the air without sowing, or reaping, or storing, surely he will supply us when we use these means in faith. For us to rely upon these means and forget our God would be foolish indeed. Our King would have his subjects give their hearts to his love and service and not worry themselves with grovelling anxieties. It is well for us that we have these daily wants, because they lead us to our heavenly Father; but if we grow anxious, they are turned from their design and made into barriers to shut us out from the Lord. Oh, that we would be as good as the birds in truthfulness, since in dignity of nature we are worth more than they.
PRAY FOR THE NATIONS
This week, weāre praying for the Dhund of Pakistan.
The Dhund are a modernized tribe known for high quality education but they do not know the true knowledge of Christ.
Pray that many Dhund would hear the gospel and repent.
RECOMMENDED RESOURCE
Fearing Other People
This week as we pray about worry and anxiety, we need to acknowledge that we often worry about other people. We lose sleep over how others will see us, if they might reject us, or if they will physically hurt us. Scripture speaks with clarity about this, calling us NOT to fear man, but to trust in Christ.
A fantastic resource to help you confront your own fear of man and replace it with confidence in God is When People are Big and God is Small by Ed Welch. This is a REALLY helpful, practical book that will help you overcome peer pressure, codependency, the need to be liked, and other ways that the fear of man rears its head in our lives.
Let me give you a fair warning: This book will make you uncomfortable. It is packed with really clear questions that will leave your heart exposed before God. But it will also point you to the hope of Christ, who rose to set us free from every fear.
The fear of man is a big problem. I canāt wait to hear how God uses this book in your life.
