DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)
We now commit ourselves again to your keeping, faithful Creator; to your keeping, Savior of the pierced hand; to your keeping, eternal Spirit, who is able to keep us from falling and to sanctify us wholly that we may be made to stand among the saints in light. God, we can trust you and we do. Our faith has gathered strength as the years have rolled on. Each following birthday, we trust, confirms us in the fact that to rely upon God is our happiness and our strength, and we will do so, though the earth be removed and the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea. We will not fear, since God remains steadfast forever and his covenant cannot fail.
Amen.
VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)
âI am weary from grief; strengthen me through your word.â (Psalm 119:28)
His hope in his state of depression lies not in himself, but in his God; if he can be strengthened from on high, he will yet shake off his heaviness and rise to joy again. He pleads the promise of the word and asks for nothing more than for God to act as he has promised to.
God strengthens us by infusing grace through his word. The word which creates can certainly sustain. Grace can enable us to bear the constant fret of an abiding sorrow, it can repair the decay caused by the perpetual tear-drip, and give to the believer the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness.
PRAY FOR THE NATIONS
This week, weâre praying for the Parachi of Afghanistan.
Just a few weeks ago, a 6.0-magnitude earthquake hit eastern Afghanistan, not far from where the Parachi live. The earthquake left 800 people dead overnight.
Pray that the Parachi would consider eternal things and seek the truth.
RECOMMENDED RESOURCE
Strengthen your faith and sharing it with others
This week as we focus on strengthening our faith, a fantastic resource for this is Making Sense of God by Tim Keller. This book, written as an invitation to a skeptic, will open your eyes in fresh ways to the work that Christ has done.
Keller beautifully and clearly explains how Christ offersâŠ
A Meaning That Suffering Canât Take from You
A Satisfaction That Is Not Based on Circumstances
An Identity That Doesnât Crush You or Exclude Others
A Hope That Can Face Anything
A Solid Foundation for Moral Goodness
A Justice That Does Not Create New Oppressors
If you ever wonder if Christ really is worth it, I know that this book will encourage you to keep your eyes on Christ. Plus, itâs an accessible and persuasive book to offer to a skeptical friend!
I hope youâll grab a copy today.
LAST WORD FROM SPURGEON
