Pray with Spurgeon
Daily Newsletter from SpurgeonBooks
This week, our prayers and Scripture readings each day will focus on worship. Next week, we’ll highlight a different theme. Invite a friend to pray with you by sending them this link.
DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)
Glorious God, it is the flower of our being to worship your; this is the crown and glory of life, to adore and worship the life-giver from whom all good things come. Worship has often been like a bath in heavenly pleasure to us, and we have come out of it refreshed, comforted, blessed, and filled with heavenly delight. Oh for the Holy Spirit’s power to help us in worship now! Breathe upon us, oh divine Spirit, and let that breath cause us to forget the world, but bring us into the fullest life in the contemplation of God and heaven.
Amen.
VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)
“Therefore, brothers and sisters, in view of the mercies of God, I urge you to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God; this is your true worship.” (Romans 12:1)
To present our bodies to God, not our souls alone, to make real, practical work of it. Let this flesh and blood in which your body dwells be presented unto God, not to be killed and to be a dead sacrifice, but to live and still to be a sacrifice, a living sacrifice unto God, holy and acceptable to him. This is reasonable. God help us to carry it out.
PRAY FOR THE NATIONS
This week, we’re praying for the Mili of China.
The Mili (pronounced MEE-lee) are a group of 31,000 people with zero Christians. There are no churches they can attend, no Bible in their language, and no Christians in their community. They will never hear about Jesus unless a missionary from the outside goes to tell them.
Pray that God would send workers to the Mili.
RECOMMENDED RESOURCE
Enjoying Jesus with refreshed life*
Have you ever read a book or heard a sermon about Christ that left you slightly skeptical, “Can Jesus REALLY be that good?” Our wandering hearts tend to believe that Christ’s mercy can’t really go as far as our sin has taken us. We doubt his power to save because we don’t really believe that he really is that kind.
It’s so foolish. And that’s why we need solid teaching to constantly retrain our hearts to remember… yes, Jesus REALLY IS that good.
Last month, I read one of those “almost-too-good-to-be-true” books that is actually true, rooted in biblical truth. Enjoying Jesus by Tim Chester.
This book is an absolutely breathtaking invitation to ENJOY Christ and his grace, not just know the truth about it. If your faith is feeling stale, if you see that your passion for God is waning, or if you know that prayer is becoming a discipline without delight… the solution is to sit down for a Bible-saturated feast on the goodness of Jesus. And that’s exactly what Enjoying Jesus is.
This book has been such a blessed reminder to me, and I know it will encourage you as well.
