DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)

We do want to serve you. We long that every thought we think, and every word we say or write, should be all for you. We long to lead consecrated lives for we are persuaded that we only live when we live for God, that anything else is just trivial. Oh, to be taken up as offerings wholly to be consumed upon the altar of the Lord, joyfully ascending to him in every outgoing of our life. This morning, be pleased to refresh us. Draw near to us gracious God; it is only your presence that can make us happy, holy, devout or strong.

Amen.

VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)

“Therefore, brothers and sisters, in view of the mercies of God, I urge you to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God; this is your true worship.” (Romans 12:1)

Though he beseeches you to do it, he claims a right to it. It is but your reasonable service. Do we need to be entreated to be reasonable? I am afraid that we do sometimes. And what are we to do? To present our bodies to God, not our souls alone, to make real, practical work of it. Let this flesh and blood in which your body dwells be presented unto God, not to be killed and to be a dead sacrifice, but to live and still to be a sacrifice, a living sacrifice unto God, holy and acceptable to him. This is reasonable. God help us to carry it out.

PRAY FOR THE NATIONS

This week, we’re praying for the Lasi of Pakistan.

The Lasi live in close-knit communities made up of extended family. God promised that “all the families of the earth shall be blessed” through Jesus, the seed of Abraham (Genesis 12:3). No Lasi family has ever heard of this promise.

Pray that the good news of Jesus would be brought to the Lasi.
