DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)

Lord, we ask you to bless our country at this time and by your great and infinite mercy preserve us, we beg you, from war. We long for peace to reign all over the world, but do not let this nation intermeddle and be as one that grabs a dog by the ear. May there be wisdom given where we fear folly and strength given where wisdom reigns. May the Lord grant that wars may utterly cease to the ends of the earth. Make a way, we pray, for the progress of Christianity, of civilization, of liberty, of everything that is honest and of good repute. May your kingdom come and your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven, for yours is the kingdom, the power and the glory, forever and ever.

Amen.

VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)

“He makes wars cease throughout the earth. He shatters bows and cuts spears to pieces; he sets wagons ablaze.” (Psalm 46:9)

His voice quiets the tumult of war, and calls for the silence of peace. However remote and barbarous the tribe, he awes the people into rest. He crushes the great powers until they cannot provoke strife again; he gives his people profound rest.

Blessed deed of the Prince of Peace! When shall it be literally performed? Already the spiritual foes of his people are despoiled of their power to destroy; but when shall the universal victory of peace be celebrated and weapons of wholesale murder be consigned to ignominious destruction? How glorious will the ultimate victory of Jesus be in the day of his return when every enemy shall lick the dust!

PRAY FOR THE NATIONS

This week, we’re praying for the Kluet of Indonesia.

The Kluet live in close knit communities and are very closed-off to outsiders, but their only hope of hearing the good news of Jesus is for an outsider to bring it to them.

Pray that missionaries going to the Kluet of Indonesia would have wisdom as they relate to the people.

The step that EVERY Christian family can take towards world peace

This week, as we pray about world peace, we’re praying about something really daunting. Something that seems impossible. (And certainly, with man, it is impossible.) You may not think that you can change the world, but you can certainly change your own home.

Families are the building blocks of society. As families are rooted in God’s Word, it spreads. If you want to make real peace in the world, start by pointing your own kids to Christ.

Family devotionals from God Centered Family will give you everything you need to get started. These devotionals will help you lay three foundations for lifelong faith:

  • Bible Habits — Cultivate a daily habit of Bible reading that will follow your kids for the rest of their lives.

  • Bible Knowledge — By reading the ENTIRE Bible, you’ll give your kids a thorough biblical literacy that will protect your kids from false teaching and sin.

  • Bible Skills — Don’t make your kids sit through the Bible — train them to engage with the Bible, ask good questions, and dive deep.

It’s all about giving our kids the peace that comes from long-term faith, not quick results. If you’re looking for trustworthy resources to teach your kids the entire Bible, I hope you’ll check out God Centered Family.

LAST WORD FROM SPURGEON

“It is safer for a believer to lie down in peace than to sit up and worry.” — Charles Spurgeon
