Daily Newsletter from SpurgeonBooks

Thanks for praying with us this week. Weā€™ll be back on Monday.

DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)

Let us not be dependent upon feeling but may we love you forever so that if you turn your back on us we would not think less of you, for you are unspeakably to be beloved whatever you do, and if you give us rough words, yet still we would cling to you, and if the rod be used till we tingle again, yet still will we love you, for you are to infinitely beloved by all men and angels and your Father loved you. Make our hearts to love you evermore the same. With all the capacity for love that there is in us, and with all the more that you can give us, may we love our Lord in spirit and in truth. Help us, Lord, to conquer sin out of love for you.

Amen.

VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)

ā€œFurthermore, we had human fathers discipline us, and we respected them. Shouldnā€™t we submit even more to the Father of spirits and live?ā€ (Hebrews 12:9)

There was, possibly, much of their own temper mixed with their chastisements; they let off their wrath upon us sometimes by the medium of chastisement. But God never chastens His children merely out of anger.

PRAY FOR THE NATIONS

This week, weā€™re praying for the Tama of Chad.

The Old Testament promises that Christ will ā€œproclaim peace to the nations. His dominion will extend from sea to sea, from the Euphrates River to the ends of the earthā€ (Zechariah 9:10). The Tama have never heard of the peace of Christ.

Pray that many Tama would trust in Christ and know the peace of Christ now and forever.

RECOMMENDED RESOURCE

Showing our kids the discipline of God

As parents, we are commanded to ā€œbring [our children] up in the discipline and instruction of the Lordā€ (Ephesians 6:4). They will not follow the Lord automatically ā€” they need to be intentionally taught and discipled. We need to show them the truth and pray that God would help them embrace it.

This takes intentionality, but I think the most beneficial thing you can do to lay a foundation of faith for your kids is to start the regular discipline of reading the Bible together every day.

To help you, Iā€™ve been creating a series of family devotionals that cover the entire Bible ā€” from Genesis to Revelation ā€” to show how every chapter points us to Godā€™s glory and grace in Christ.

Iā€™ve been so thankful to hear that parents have been helped by this resource and I canā€™t wait to hear about what God does in YOUR family as you read his Word together.
