DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)

We look up to you and are filled with light. But dear, dear Savior, we dare not turn to ordinances, we dare not turn to our own prayers, tears, or gifts to the poor, we dare not look to our own works, we only look to you. Immanuel, your wounds, these bleed the balm that heals our wounds, your crowned head once covered with thorns, your body once laid in the silent tomb, your deity once covered and concealed from man, but now resplendent among triumphant hosts. If we can perish trusting in you, we must perish, but we know we cannot, for you have bound up our salvation with your glory, and because you are a glorious Savior forever, no one who trusts in you shall ever be confounded.

Amen.

VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)

ā€œFor if the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a young cow, sprinkling those who are defiled, sanctify for the purification of the flesh, how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, cleanse our consciences from dead works so that we can serve the living God?ā€ (Hebrews 9:13–14)

Do you all feel the power of that blood now? What a blessing it is to know that the conscience is quite at rest because of the purging brought about by Jesus’ blood! It is heaven begun below. We cannot serve God rightly until we have been cleansed in this way. We dare not stand in that awe-inspiring presence while the consciousness of sin is upon us; but when Jesus Christ says to us, ā€œYou are clean,ā€ then, ā€œbeing justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.ā€ Then have we ā€œaccess with confidenceā€ to the Father through him.

PRAY FOR THE NATIONS

This week, we’re praying for the Aheria in India.

As a scheduled caste, the Aheria face extreme prejudice in everyday life.

Pray that the Aheria would know that God loves and values them.

RECOMMENDED RESOURCE

A Resource to Help You Pray in 2026

It seems like every year, I make a new year’s resolution to pray more frequently and more biblically. This is healthy — we should realize our need for prayer more and more every year. Over the last five years, my prayer life has been REALLY blessed by a really great resource, Psalms in 30 Days by Trevin Wax.

This book is a collection of thirty days of prayers (morning, midday, and evening) that includes all 150 psalms and prayers from Scripture and church history. With this book, you can pray through all of the psalms every month.

These prayers are so incredibly fresh, deep, and life-giving, and having a book that is set aside just for prayer is a physical reminder (on your table, shelf, desk, or bedside table) to pray (Plus, the book looks great!)

I’ve been using Psalms in 30 Days for several years and I’m still so thankful for the consistency and power it has brought to my prayer life. If consistency in prayer is a struggle for you, this book is a great tool to help you overcome it. I hope you’ll grab a copy and join me.

LAST WORD FROM SPURGEON

ā€œMorality may keep you out of jail, but it takes the blood of Jesus Christ to keep you out of hell.ā€ — Charles Spurgeon
