DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)
Savior, make us like yourself; we do not wish to do as much as we wish to be. If you will make us right, we will do right. We have often put a constraint upon ourselves to be right; but we long to be like you, Jesus, so that we would only have to act out ourselves to act out perfect holiness. We will never rest until this is the case, until you have made us to be inwardly holy; and then words and actions must be holy as a matter of course.
God be gracious to this land. Send us, we pray, the Holy Spirit more abundantly than ever; and may there be myriads born to Christ in these days. Do this in all the nations, until all lands shall bow before you and all generations shall call you blessed.
Amen.
VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)
āBut desire the greater gifts. And I will show you an even better way. If I speak human or angelic tongues but do not have love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.ā (1 Corinthians 12:31ā13:1)
A gift is often barren, but love is always fruitful. We need to get more love so we will glorify God. How little glory God often gets out of great gifts! Gifts may be prostituted to the vilest purposes, but love always brings glory to Godās holy name. Remember, also, that though we are to desire great gifts, we will lose them one day. But if we have this love, we will keep it, and it will keep us. This divine love gives us the foretaste and pledge of glory. The person who is full of the majestic grace of divine love truly is blessed.
PRAY FOR THE NATIONS
This week, weāre praying for the Naruo of China.
On the last day, around the throne of Christ, there will be āa vast multitude from every nation, tribe, people, and languageā (Revelation 7:9). When will the Naruo join this heavenly crowd?
Pray that Christ would receive the praise he deserves from the Naruo.
