DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)

Glorious God, there are many of us who can bless you that we know you. There was a time when we lived in your world but had never known the Creator. We were partakers of your providence but we did not know the Provider. We went up and down in the sunlight but we were blind. There were voices all around us but we were deaf to all things spiritual. And some of us lived in this way for years. It was a happy day for us when, in the infinite sovereignty of your love, you looked upon us and called us by your grace. Then our dead hearts began to beat. Then light entered the darkened eye. Then we turned to you.

Amen.

VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)

“For his invisible attributes, that is, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen since the creation of the world, being understood through what he has made. As a result, people are without excuse.” (Romans 1:20)

Men who never heard the gospel can see God in his works if they open their eyes. There is written upon the face of nature enough to condemn men if they do not turn to God. There is a gospel of the sea, and of the heavens, of the stars, and of the sun; and if men will not read it, they are guilty, for they are wilfully ignorant of what they might know, and ought to know.

PRAY FOR THE NATIONS

This week, we’re praying for the Yangliu Lalu of China.

The Yangliu Lalu do not have the Bible in their language. They know that there is a creator God (Romans 1), but cannot know his grace to save without God’s Word.

Pray that faithful Bible translators would bring God’s Word to the Yangliu Lalu for the first time.

RECOMMENDED RESOURCE

Understanding Who We Are by Understanding God

This week, as we have praised God as our creator, we can find our true identity in him. A great resource for gaining a better understanding of who we are in light of God’s having made us is Who Am I? by Jerry Bridges.

This is a fantastic little book that is PACKED with biblical truth. Take your time to read it slowly, looking up all the Scriptures he mentions, and letting this powerful message sink into your heart.

So many of our struggles (pride, anxiety, sexuality, and more) are really rooted in an identity crisis — we don’t really know who we are.

This book will fill you with confidence to share with others and thankfulness for the astounding work God has done to give you a new identity in Christ. I know it will bless you.
