DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)
Glorious Lord God, our faith is fully sure of your existence and our heart rejoices in your infinite love. Blessed was the day when first we knew our God. We mourn and lament with deep repentance that we lived as strangers to our best friend for so long, him in whose hand our breath is, and whose are all our ways. It is of your grace that we were ever brought to know you. Had we been left to ourselves, we should have wandered on and remained in darkness until this day; but blessed be your name, God of all grace, you revealed yourself to us, you have brought your life to our death and made us alive in you.
Amen.
VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)
“… the Scripture was fulfilled that says, Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness, and he was called God’s friend.” (James 2:23)
We also may be called friends of God. Admire and adore the condescending God who thus speaks of a man like ourselves, and calls him his friend. The heavens are not pure in his heart, and he charged his angels with folly, and yet he takes a man and sets him apart to be his friend.
PRAY FOR THE NATIONS
This week, we’re praying for the Maba of Indonesia.
The Maba live in a region with very poor water quality. They cannot drink the water.
Pray that Christians would bring water filtration technology to the Maba.
RECOMMENDED RESOURCE
Reflecting on the promises of God with your kids
God’s Big Promises Bible Storybook by Carl Laferton is a great Bible storybook for kids. Over 400 pages, the book re-tells 92 foundational Bible stories to show kids (ages 2–8) the big story of the Bible. As the title suggests, the book focuses on tracing God’s promises through all of Scripture. The book has special, bright colored icons that mark every time God makes a promise AND whenever he keeps that promise — it's a tangible illustration to your kids that God is trustworthy and faithful.
I’m REALLY thankful for this resource. I know that my family will read it often for YEARS to come and I hope you’ll buy a copy for your family as well.
If your kids are into Yoto, this storybook Bible audiobook is now available on Yoto cards. I was thankful to receive a review copy. These cards are packed with 2.5 hours of Jesus-centered audio that your kids will love (You can even grab a bundle that features the Yoto cards and the hardback book — a great Christmas gift for any Yoto fans in your life!)

“My people will be satisfied with my goodness. This is the LORD’s declaration.” (Jeremiah 31:14)
Did you notice that God claims two things are his in this verse? Look at the “my,” which comes twice: “My people will be satisfied with my goodness.”
The kind of people who are satisfied with God are marked out as God’s own. He is pleased with them because they are pleased with him. They call him their God and he calls them his people; he is satisfied to take them for a portion and they are satisfied with him for their portion. There is a mutual communion of delight between God’s people and the people’s God.
God’s people are satisfied, which is a rare thing. Very few people are ever satisfied, no matter what they have. They have swallowed a leech which continually cries, “Give! Give!” (Proverbs 30:15). Only sanctified souls are satisfied souls. Only God himself can convert us and content us.
It is no wonder that the Lord’s people should be satisfied with the goodness of their Lord. In him, we find goodness without mixture, bounty without stint, mercy without chiding, love without change, and favor without reserve. If God’s goodness does not satisfy us, what will? Are we still complaining? Surely there is a wrong desire within if it is one which God’s goodness does not satisfy.
Lord, I am satisfied. Blessed be your name.
Something to think about today if you’re feeling dissatisfied: What am I actually craving? How can the Lord’s goodness satisfy me?
