DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)
Blessed God, Father, Son, and Spirit, our whole spirit would worship you; we long to have such knowledge of your goodness that we might not be overawed with your greatness; such a sense of your nearness in the person of Jesus Christ, the man, the branch, that we might not be driven away with terror, but may be drawn near with filial love and holy boldness. Lord, there was once a great gulf between us, but you have bridged that gulf; for now the Lord Jesus Christ is brother to our souls, yet is he Son of the highest; truly man, yet truly God, he is the interpreter, one of a thousand, the daysman, who lays his hand upon us both this day.
Amen.
VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)
“The wise person should not boast in his wisdom; the strong should not boast in his strength; the wealthy should not boast in his wealth. But the one who boasts should boast in this: that he understands and knows me….” (Jeremiah 9:23–24)
If the heart is not right with God, vain are all external rites. God had turned again to his rebellious people, and would have been glad if they had but known him. He would have made them richer than the rich, and wiser than the wise, and mightier than the mighty; but they would not have the things in which the Lord delighted.
PRAY FOR THE NATIONS
This week, we’re praying for the Runga of Chad.
Yesterday, we prayed for the Runga’s safety. We must also pray for the missionaries who we believe can and must go to them. They will live in a dangerous region for the sake of Christ, who has sent them “out like sheep among wolves” (Matthew 10:16). He is worth it.
Pray that missionaries would count the cost and go to the Runga.
RECOMMENDED RESOURCE
Your kids need to know God. They need to know his Word.
This week, as we’ve prayed about the joy of knowing God and asking God to help us know him more, I’ve been thankful to pray these prayers for my kids as well. My greatest longing is that my kids would truly know God and never let him go. If you’re a parent like me, I know that this desire is dear to your heart too.
Thankfully, God has made himself known. In the Bible, our kids can encounter God in a life-changing way.
If your kids need God (and they do), then they need his Word.
And no one is better equipped to share it with them than you are.
That’s why I created God Centered Family — a series of family devotionals that cover every book of the Bible, creating a simple opportunity for any parent to have real conversations about Jesus every day.
Point your kids to God by reading his Word together. Learn more about God Centered Family and subscribe today right here.
