DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)

With our whole heart many of us pray that you would bless our country and spare it from the horrible evils of war. Oh God of peace, send us peace always, by any means. Sword of the Lord, rest and be quiet now. May the gospel with its good influences spread over all nations until there is no selfish clutching, no greedy grasping at territories, no oppression of one race by another; but may the laws of the king of peace be universally proclaimed, and obeyed even by those who perhaps yield not their hearts to his sway; for we know, great King, that while you have a special kingdom in your people, yet the Lord has given you power over all flesh and we pray this may be recognized and we may see it. Your kingdom come, oh Jesus; may your kingdom come, your Father’s kingdom and let his will be done on earth as it is in heaven; for yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever.

Amen.

VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)

“He will settle disputes among the nations and provide arbitration for many peoples. They will beat their swords into plows and their spears into pruning knives. Nation will not take up the sword against nation, and they will never again train for war.” (Isaiah 2:4)

We long for these happy times to come! Today, the nations are heavily armed and are inventing weapons more and more terrible, as if the chief end of man could only be answered by destroying myriads of people. Yet peace will prevail one day. Peace will prevail so extensively that the instruments of destruction shall be beaten into other shapes and used for better purposes.

How will this come about? By trade? By civilization? By peace treaties? We do not believe it. Past experience forbids our trusting in means so feeble. Peace will be established only by the reign of the Prince of Peace. He must teach the people by his Spirit, renew their hearts by his grace, and reign over them by his supreme power, and then will they stop wounding and killing. Man is a monster and only the Lord Jesus can turn this lion into a lamb.

PRAY FOR THE NATIONS

This week, we’re praying for the Kluet of Indonesia.

The Kluet is a group of 58,000 Muslims. They aren’t just non-Christians, they have never had the opportunity to believe in Jesus.

  • They do not know any Christians.

  • The full Bible is not in their language.

  • There is no church in their area.

  • The gospel has never been proclaimed among them.

Pray that God would send missionaries to the Kluet of Indonesia.

Get a FREE illustrated storybook for your kids*

Stories are REALLY powerful — they shape us more than we realize. If we’re going to win the soul of the next generation for Christ, we have to give our kids a better story than the world could offer. And that’s why I’ll never apologize for FILLING my house with solid, gospel-rooted books.

If you want help building your family’s library (and, let me be clear about this — your kids’ library is NEVER “too big” 😉), my friends at The Voice of the Martyrs want to send you a FREE book!

You can get a FREE illustrated book on the life of the Apostle Thomas (while supplies last). This picture book (which retails for $11.99) is yours FOR FREE.
