DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)

Will you be pleased to bless the various works carried on by the church; may they all prosper. Let our Sunday School especially be visited with the dew of heaven, and the schools that belong to us and are situated a little distance, may they also have an abundant shower from the Lord; and may all the Sunday Schools throughout the world be richly refreshed, and bring forth a great harvest for God.

Amen.

VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)

“He established a testimony in Jacob and set up a law in Israel, which he commanded our ancestors to teach to their children.” (Psalm 78:5)

The testimony for the true God was to be transmitted from generation to generation by the careful instruction of succeeding families. We have the command for this oral transmission very frequently given in the Pentateuch. Reader, if you are a parent, have you conscientiously discharged this duty?

PRAY FOR THE NATIONS

This week, we’re praying for the Chadong of China.

The Chadong have a strong sense of ethnic identity, despite lacking full recognition from the Chinese government. This may make them hostile to missionaries from the outside.

Pray that God would soften the hearts of the Chadong.

Teaching Kids to Be LIFELONG Followers of Jesus

As our kids go back to school, we should be reflecting a lot on what we are teaching them (not just what others might be teaching them). This school year, imagine how great it would be for your family if you made a commitment to read the Bible together EVERY DAY?

Family devotionals from God Centered Family will give you everything you need to teach your kids the Bible (in just ten minutes each day)

Here’s what makes these devotionals unique:

  • Cover the Whole Bible — Teach every verse of Scripture (not just the popular stories)

  • Interactive — Train kids to read the Bible for themselves (not just sit through it)

  • Focused on Jesus — We’re saved by God’s grace (not our good works)

  • Realistic — Only ten minutes each day

FAITH’S CHECKBOOK

Spurgeon’s classic devotional, The Chequebook of the Bank of Faith, contains a promise of God for every day of the year. Pray with Spurgeon Plus subscribers receive the daily readings every weekday.

“See, the LORD your God has set the land before you. Go up and take possession of it as the LORD, the God of your ancestors, has told you. Do not be afraid or discouraged.” (Deuteronomy 1:21)

There is a heritage of grace which we should be bold enough to take for our own possession. Everything that one believer has gained is free to another. We may be strong in faith, fervent in love, and abundant in labor; there is nothing to prevent it; let us go up and take possession. The sweetest experiences and the brightest grace are as much for us as for any other Christian. The Lord has set it before us; no one can deny our right; let us go up and possess it in his name.

The world also lies before us to be conquered for the Lord Jesus. We are not to leave any country or corner of it unreached. That slum near our house is before us, not to frustrate our plans, but to be a part of them. We only have to summon enough courage to go forward. We shall win dark homes and hard hearts for Jesus. Let us never leave the people in a lane or alley to die because we do not have enough faith in Jesus and his gospel to go up and possess the land. No spot is too dark, no person is so profane as to be beyond the power of grace. Forget fear! Faith marches to the conquest.

Something to think about today if you’re feeling afraid of what God has called you to: He will fight every battle in his name.
