DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)

Above all, keep us from covetousness which is idolatry, and from malice which is of the devil. Grant unto us to be full of sweetness and light. May love dwell in us and reign in us. May we each look not to his own interests, but rather to the interests of others. Help us to live for Jesus. There is no life like it. Help us to be Christly men, Christ’s men, and may we in all things reflect the light which we receive from him.

Amen.

VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)

“About eating food sacrificed to idols, then, we know that ‘an idol is nothing in the world,” and that “there is no God but one….’ However, not everyone has this knowledge. Some have been so used to idolatry up until now that when they eat food sacrificed to an idol, their conscience, being weak, is defiled.” (1 Corinthians 8:4, 7)

You may eat the meat if you like, for the idol is nothing at all; but, still, if you are told that it is meat that has been offered to idols, and that you by eating of it seem to join in the worship of idols, abstain from doing it, not for your own sake, but for the sake of the man who might be caused to stumble through you.

This is a safe rule with regard to Christian behavior in many other things. There may be things lawful in drink as well as in meat, which a man may take without sinning; but if he knows that his example leads others astray, then let him take heed that he does not set such an example. An example which is an excuse for drunkenness is not a good one; therefore, let none of us set it before the eyes of men.

PRAY FOR THE NATIONS

This week, we’re praying for the Chenoua Berber of Algeria.

The Chenoua Berber still use their heart language, Chenoua, every day but most of the younger generations also know Arabic.

Pray that Arabic-speaking believers would use the shared language as a bridge to learn Chenoua and share the gospel.
