DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)

Take the crippled kingdom of our manhood and reign over it. Let my spirit and body be set apart for God. May there be nothing held back; may everything be given up to you. Reign forever! Pierced King, despised and nailed to a tree, sit on the glorious high throne in our hearts, and may our lives prove that you are Lord over us; by our every thought, desire, imagination, word, and act, in every respect being under your divine control.

Your people breathe to you out of their very hearts the prayer that you would reign over us without a rival. Oh Savior, use for yourself what you have bought with blood and drive out the enemy. Let no power have any dominion over us except the power of your good Spirit who works righteousness and peace.

Amen.

VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)

“My soul, bless the LORD! LORD my God, you are very great; you are clothed with majesty and splendor.” (Psalm 104:1)

This description has in it a remarkable blending of the boldness of faith and the awe of holy fear for the psalmist calls the infinite Lord “my God,” and at the same time, falls in amazement at the divine greatness, he cries out in utter astonishment, “you are very great.”

Notice that the wonder expressed does not refer to the creation and its greatness, but to the Lord himself. It is not “the universe is very great!” but “YOU are very great.” Many stay at the creature and so become idolatrous in spirit; to pass onward to the Creator himself is true wisdom.

PRAY FOR THE NATIONS

This week, we’re praying for the Bunu of China.

The Bunu’s complex language will be difficult to learn. It will take missionaries a long time to just prepare to share the gospel with them.

Pray that missionaries going to the Bunu will have strong supporters who can enable them to study the language and culture thoroughly.
