DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)
We have no merit, no claim, no righteousness of our own. Oh, now, dear savior, we look up to you. Oh, that some might look for the first time, and those of us that have long looked would fix our happy gaze again upon that blessed substitutionary sacrifice where all our hope is found. Dear savior, we take you to be everything to us, our sin-bearer and our sin-destroyer. We do not have even a shadow of a shade of hope anywhere but in you: your life, your death, your resurrection, your ascension, your glory, your reign, your return; these are the only stars in our sky.
Amen.
VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)
“He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification.” (Romans 4:25)
Jesus Christ is the great object of saving faith. Christ, once dead, has been raised from the dead. If you want to be saved, you must rely on the crucified and risen Savior. If you thus believe that Jesus the crucified is the Christ of God, the anointed Messiah and Redeemer, you prove that you are born of God. And if you trust yourself to the risen and glorified Christ, you have risen with him, and you will rise to be with him forever and ever.
PRAY FOR THE NATIONS
This week, we’re praying for the Palembang in Indonesia.
The Risen Lord Jesus sends his people to “make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:18). We haven’t finished this command yet — there are few disciples in the Palembang nation.
Pray that Christians would send missionaries to the Palembang in obedience to Christ.
RECOMMENDED RESOURCE
Jesus Rose From the Dead. Depend On It.
Earlier in the week, I recommended a short booklet defending and explaining the resurrection of Christ. If you’re looking for a more robust resource, I recommend Did Jesus Really Rise From The Dead? A Surgeon-Scientist Examines The Evidence by Thomas Miller. This book (written by a medical doctor) unpacks and defends the resurrection of Jesus from a number of perspectives. Miller also does a great job of explaining why the death and resurrection of Jesus are such good news.
This book is a great, faith-strengthening resource that I know will bless you.
LAST WORD FROM SPURGEON
“Think of the cross and let your tears flow. But you must wipe those tears away, for Christ is not in the grave.” — Charles Spurgeon
