Thanks for praying with us this week. We’ll be back on Monday.

DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)

Oh Lord, we have heard of some who can look back upon their lives with pleasure and satisfaction, but we wish to look nowhere but to you, our Savior. You are our wisdom, not our experience. You are our righteousness, not our good deeds or gifts to the poor. You are our sanctification, not our prayers and careful living. You are everything to us and we are just nothing. We were nothing when you began with us, when we were wallowing in the blood, cast out in death in the open field to perish. Then you said “Live,” and we lived by virtue of that word. By that word of God shall men live, and that is how we live.

Will you continue drawing us in until you have drawn us to perfection in you, to dwell with you forever.

Amen.

VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)

“So then, dear friends, since we have these promises, let us cleanse ourselves from every impurity of the flesh and spirit, bringing holiness to completion in the fear of God.” (2 Corinthians 7:1)

The reason Paul gave to stir up in us this godly ambition to be holy is that Christians possess the most glorious promises. We actually have these promises in our possession, that is, that we daily live in the enjoyment of them.

God loves us with a father’s love, guides us with a father’s care, protects us with a father’s watchfulness, instructs us with a father’s wisdom, bears with us with a father’s patience, and longs for us with a father’s longing. We are his tender children, and he is our loving parent. These are promises we have obtained. They are our possession.

PRAY FOR THE NATIONS

This week, we’re praying for the Yoruk of Turkey.

God’s people are commanded to “proclaim his deeds among the nations” (Psalm 9:11). This command has never been obeyed among the Yoruk. They need to hear the good news.

Pray that the Yoruk would hear the gospel for the first time.

LAST WORD FROM SPURGEON
