DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)
Our Father God, we wish to speak with you as a man speaks with his friend. But who are we that we should draw near to you? We are, at best, nothing more than dust and ashes. Yet we come through him who is our friend, who long ago introduced us to you and has given us permission to use his name with you. You know him well. He is your only-begotten Son, the well-beloved of your heart. He is very dear to us, but he is dearer still to you. We do remember well when you received us at the gate of the house with all your Fatherly compassion, when you, for his dear sake, “accepted us in the Beloved.” Many days have passed since then; they have been happy days, days of rest compared with that wretched time in the far-off country, when we wasted our substance, and were like a waste ourselves.
Amen.
VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)
“I do not call you servants anymore, because a servant doesn’t know what his master is doing. I have called you friends, because I have made known to you everything I have heard from my Father.” (John 15:15)
The law made man do this and that, but it communicated very little of the secret counsels of God; but there is a holy familiarity between Christ and his people, a sacred confidence which Christ has shown to us in revealing the very heart of God to us, and therefore we are put upon a very high standing, not as servants now, but as friends. Friends of Christ, show yourselves friendly by your entire obedience to his gracious will!
PRAY FOR THE NATIONS
This week, we’re praying for the Maba of Indonesia.
The Maba are a distinct ethnic group of 12,000 Muslims. There are no Christians among them or churches that speak their language.
Pray that God would send missionaries to the Maba of Indonesia.
RECOMMENDED RESOURCE
A new FREE marriage resource starts this week
Because husbands are called to “love your wives, just as Christ loved the church,” then selfishness in marriage is a SERIOUS problem. Husbands are called to show their wives what Jesus is like. A selfish husband is blasphemy.
I’m passionate about helping men grow to be the husbands God has called them to be by helping them pursue God and their wives. To be a God Centered Husband — a man who gives of himself every day to glorify God and love his family.
As a pastor, writer, and counselor, I’ve gotten to invest in a lot of marriages. It’s one of the greatest privileges of my life. And I’m excited to share about a new FREE resource to help husbands grow: The God Centered Husband weekly newsletter.
This is a short-and-sweet, Bible-focused, super practical email that will help you level up your marriage. Starting THIS FRIDAY, November 14, I’m going to start sending practical marriage tips each week. Plus there are reflections on Scripture, marriage conversation starters, prayer prompts, and more.
Each week, this newsletter is going to be saturated in Scripture and practical tools to help you pursue God AND pursue your wife. I am FIRED UP to see what God does in your marriage as we dive in together.
LAST WORD FROM SPURGEON
